How To Prevent Peeking At Gifts
Victor Epand
If you live in a house with children, then you are going to have to deal with the issue of them trying to find the gifts to take a peek. It is not their fault, curiosity often gets the better of them and they have to find out what you got them for Christmas. Instead of getting mad at them for peeking, find out ways you can prevent it from happening.
If you leave a gift in the back of the closet, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Hide the gift up high If you have little kids, then hiding the gift in a high place will prevent them from ever being able to reach it. They may know where the gift is, but unless they suddenly grow a few extra feet, they are not going to be able to reach it. Make sure it is not simply on a shelf, otherwise they may try and climb to see the gift
Tape up a bag with the gift in it If you do a thorough job of taping up a bag, you won't have to worry about them peeking. The key with peeking is to return a bag to the way it was before you saw it. If you tape it up in a complex pattern, then they won't be able to open the bag, let alone re-tape it without you knowing they looked.
Hide it outside the house If you don't want the kids looking at the gift, hide it at Grandma's place. They won't be able to see it, they won't know the layout of the house and they will have few opportunities to look without Grandma catching them. Penalize them for looking If you want to play hard ball with them, and you catch them peeking at a gift, make them take the gift to a charity and drop it off. The fact they had to give up a gift they wanted, even for a good cause, will prevent them from peeking the following year
. Children learn by example, so teach them an example of how to be charitable, as well as honest. Peeking is going to happen, and you have to make sure it is too difficult for them to even try. Hide it in obscure places, wrap it up tight and make sure they know how mad you are at them for peeking. What is the point of Christmas morning if they look at all their presents before hand?
