Discovering What You Want From Your Career
Tony Jacowski
Be Passionate
Identify all the things that you are truly passionate about. If you are not all that passionate about the new career that you have right now, it is possible that it is not the right option. Consider all the things that you would love to do in your spare time such as your hobbies, the channels or programs you don't like to miss on television, the books you read and couldn't do without and the subjects you like to study. You should also take into consideration all the things you like to talk about with of your family and friends.
Ask For feedback
You must make an effort to get as much feedback as you can from your family members as well as your friends. Make it a point to speak to the people you have faith in, and ask them to provide you with a frank opinion of where they perceive you to be most comfortable.
If you decide to do this, you must be ready to listen to and appreciate the frank opinions they will probably share with you. In addition, ask them about the things that you do well according to them, and the reasons for it.
Think From Within
Try to think from within. Go back in time and look at your career and recognize all the instances when you truly felt energized and in high spirits with whatever you were accomplishing.
Think of all those instances where you were buzzing with energy to do your work, and could barely wait to go back to the office the next day. Why were those instances satisfying? What are the things you should do in order to bring back those same feelings in your new career?
The Questions People Ask You
What are the questions that people keep on asking you over and over again? This is an additional hint with regard to the things you are good at, and all the things that you may come across in a new career. What are the things you feel that you are a professional in, whether at work or at home? If you were to take up teaching, specializing in a subject, what would be your subject of specialization? There are many people who have developed their hobbies into part-time occupations and flourishing careers.
Finding out what you want in a career isn't rocket science, but it does take some in-depth introspection. Follow the steps above, and you will be well on your way to finding a job you love.
