Who Needs A Removal Company
Catherine Harvey
Removal companies have not always been around. Go a little way back in history and most people, once they established a home, would stay there for the rest of their lives. Their children would be born there, sons would bring in their wives to take up residence and their offspring would live there too. The home would then be left to these new families who wouldn't dream of selling up.
Unless of course, you were a nomad and then you would have acquired the ability to pack all your worldly possessions on personally owned vehicles or animals and have no need for a removal company at all. DIY stores these days have nothing on the nomads and their ability to flat pack their entire homes and strap them on a horses back.
Look back one hundred years and the people were beginning to move home to chase work prospects in different areas and even different countries. But even then, not many people owned enough possessions that would warrant the services of a removal company. Before we had all the health and safety laws, there was quite an art to packing all your worldly goods in and on your car as well as squeezing in half a dozen kids and moving across country to your new shack.
So what changed? With the fast moving technology developments that have occurred the whole world has become a much more accessible place. People think nothing these days of moving from country to country in their pursuit of the better paid career. Unfortunately, this is leading to disjointed families who are spread across the globe. Webcams and telephone calls are not the same for the older generation as living within walking distance of your children and grandchildren.
Businesses have boomed from local affairs to the worldwide arena and people's expectations have grown tremendously. Products from every corner of the world are expected to be accessible at the click of a button and of course this type of lifestyle requires people to deal with it and supply it. And there is money to be made in it. Big money.
And this is why people are willing to uproot and move on a regular basis to keep up with the demand of businesses that branch out into country after country in their pursuit of the bigger riches and the bigger cut of the market.
Many high fliers think nothing of commuting via an aeroplane. This is in stark contrast to the olden days when everybody was able to find sufficient work in their local town and if they did want to commute it would mean a half hour train journey, not a day's flight.
So, someone saw this trend developing and jumped on the bandwagon of assisting people in their constant roaming of the planet. Removal companies were set up in every city, promising to remove the stress of uprooting your family and taking all your speedily accumulated goods to another city.
And you'll never realise just how much clutter you accumulate until it comes to moving house. With technological whizz kids trying to make everything smaller and easier how come it all still takes up so much room? When it comes to a removal company pricing your removal job it will surprise you what you then think you can do without. Why pay a removal company to pack and move things that you haven't used in years, just to store them at a new location? Maybe if we got rid of some of this junk we wouldn't need to move in the first place.
