Puggle - Beagle And Pug, Sweet And Trouble All Mixed Up In One!
Christy Taylor
Puggles do not have the howl of the Beagle, or the breathing problems of the Pug. However, they do have the high strung nature that will get them into trouble! Although their nature is "hyper", they are very sweet and lovable! Some people will have you think that they are calm. From my experience with Puggles and the research that I have done, I have found this is not the case!
The sad thing is that people either believe reports that these dogs are calm and serene or they just haven't done any research to know that these dogs need constant attention and love. And, it is a shock when they bring their Puggles home, and are not prepared for this burst of energy that has just been added to their family.
Characteristics of a Puggle:
Puggles usually weigh about 15 to 20 pounds and will grow to be about 10 - 15 inches in height. They have short hair and come in a few different colors. These colors are: fawn, black, beige, silver or multicolored with these colors with a black mask. Their skin is loose and they have a wrinkly face. Plus, they have curly tails.
How to take care of your puggle:
They are very energetic, by nature, and love to play. They need constant attention, consistent discipline, and a lot of love. These cuddly pups need a lot of playtime from each member of the family. If you don't take sufficient care of you puggle, health issues can arise. Preventative health care is your best opportunity for a healthy puppy. Although dogs are not hard to take care of, you still have an obligation to learning what your Puggle's needs are to ensure a happy, healthy life.
Walking benefits you and your Puggle. If you can walk for at least 30 minutes a day with your Puggle, than you are both off to a great start to a healthy life. However, it is very important to be sure that you do not walk your Puggle in weather that is too hot because of their compact nose. They could over heat and have breathing troubles.
It is important not to over feed your Puggle. Most adult Puggles do not need much more than about a cup of dog food per day. Many people are actually changing the food they give their dogs to more natural food. You should refer to instructions on how much you give your dog for the amount of weight they are. I have done some research on dog food, and I would recommend that you do the same. A well balanced diet is important, and there are actually alternative, healthier ways to feed your dog than the traditional bag of dog food. If you notice your dog is becoming too thin or too plump, you should increase or decrease his food accordingly. The proper food will also improve his skin and coat.
Get your dog to the vet for regular check ups. This is the absolutely important thing you can do for your Puggle. There are many diseases your dog can contract, if you do not get him the tests and shots needed to avoid these diseases. Some of these diseases are simple to avoid, yet could prove to be the death of your dog, if not acknowledged. Plus, your vet offers nail trimming and cleaning of the ears and teeth to promote a healthy lifestyle.
With the right care and a lot of love, your Puggle will be your loyal companion for a very long time.
