Drive Instead Of Fly
Arin Trinity
There are many benefits to flying; the most obvious is that you'll get there many times faster. But faster isn't always better. Sometimes you need to sit back, relax, and smell the daisies. Especially if you're a business tycoon and never take any time for yourself. Here are some ways you can enjoy your next trip.
Buy a good camera. And I don't mean one that's built into your cell phone. Actually spend a little money and invest in something good. And not only buy one, but learn how to use it. Read the manual and get into photography. This is the first step in making your trips worthwhile. You'll start to notice all the little things that you've missed once you start looking. Try to stay away from all the major tourist attractions if you want your pictures to stand out. Do a little hunting of your own. Grab a taxi and drive around the city.
Next, eat at unusual restaurants. Food is a major defining factor of culture and no matter where you travel, you're sure to find something interesting and unique. If you're in Italy, try going to a hole in the wall place. Don't be afraid to ask locals for their opinions of where to eat.
Ask locals other things as well. The only way you can truly get a feel for another country and its culture is to talk to the people living there. Don't just visit museums or famous landmarks. Instead, visit a bakery or candle shop and talk to the owner. Tell them where you're from and that you're interested in learning about this new place you're visiting.
Buy souvenirs. And not key chains or postcards or chocolate. Look for interesting places and buy something that's relative to the country. If you're in Germany, maybe buy a cuckoo clock. Don't be afraid to spend a little money. Later on, if you enjoyed your trip, you'll have something really good to remember it by.
Buy gifts! Don't forget about your friends and loved ones. Buy them something interesting from the country you're in as well. Most people could care less about plastic snow globe that says "New York," but if you brought them a handmade miniature terra cotta pot from Milan, they would probably love you forever.
All in all, don't be afraid to spend a little time for yourself on trips. Most people who go on business trips only do what's required of them. See if you can convince your boss to let you stay an extra day or two. And be sure to bring a little spending money. Life will seem a lot les dull once you start relaxing and spending more time for yourself and others on your vacations. Also, if all you go on is business trips and you're always leaving the family behind, next time actually take time off work and bring them all along with you. This is pretty much the key to happiness during trips and vacations.
