If you haven't been living under a rock the past years you know that World of Warcraft is a massive online multi-player role playing game.It has all the aspects of a fantasy game. Thousands and thousands of online game players connect to several servers around the world. They all have their own activities and goals set out for that period that they are online and interactive in World of Warcraft. Some are forming guilds, others are out to collect weapons and armor. But above all they are all, knowingly or not, working on developing their online character. If these character would not be present in World of Warcraft there would not be any game to play. These characters are not just avatars walking around in this online world, they represent the people who play with them, they are the players.
Is the character who you really are?
Creating a character in World of Warcraft is not a task you should think of lightly. All the decisions you make in those early stages will have consequences for the rest of your game play. You will have to choose between a long list of characteristics and qualities even before you set your first footstep on the playing field. The first thing you will have to pick is a race and a class and because not all races have all classes you will have to be careful and maybe read up on the different types of races and classes that exist. Then comes the choice of faction, evil or good, Horde or Alliance. And of course you need to have some type of income, yes you need a job, well a profession at least. With that last choice comes some equipment and money.
All these choices form the character with which you are going to play World of Warcraft. How much does the character mirror you in reality, or does the character mirror what you would like to be? Either way the game will show if the choices that you made were the right ones. With this character you will complete quests and interact with the other characters in the game. You can do what you want in this online world with your character, it is after all a role playing game.
Not all characters are human
If the World of Warcraft inhabitants would only be generated by human online game players it could become a little boring. Not that it would ever be empty or quiet but sometime you need an external factor in the game just to make things more interesting. So there are non-player characters in World of Warcraft whom are controlled by the game, the software. Quest givers, guards, trainers and vendors are some type of non-player characters. They can be recognised when you mover your cursor over them a talk bubble of bag of money appears but a sword-shaped pointer is also possible. Mobs of creatures or monsters are more of the hostile non-player characters.
So you see, that without the characters World of Warcraft would be a dull place to hang out. Lucky for us enough people play this game.
