Insomnia, Its Effects And How To Fight It
Mikael Andersohn
Insomnia is mostly triggered when a person suffers from constant lack of sleep due to stress from work, and even due to depression. Sometimes insomnia is triggered because of high caffeine intake during the day. Some medicine and drugs can also trigger the condition, especially cocaine. In truth, there are many causes of insomnia in a person, and they vary from person to person.
There are some insomniacs that do fall asleep, but after a few hours their sleep becomes disturbed. They are unable to regain sleep quickly afterwards. In the morning, they may feel tired and sleepy because of the insufficient hours they have spent sleeping. This could result to difficulty in performing everyday functions that they normally would be able to do effortlessly. These functions include their day jobs, which would be negatively affected by insomnia.
There are two kinds of insomnia. One type, the acute insomnia, is a short-term insomnia. It usually lasts until up to a week only. The other kind, which is called chronic insomnia, is a recurring type of insomnia and can last for a long time.
How can we fight and rid ourselves of insomnia?
Fighting Insomnia
Stress can be caused by several reasons. For example, a change in environment and the subsequent adjustment required can be a reason for a person to become stressed. For example, a person may lose some sleep thinking about the adjustments he has to make in order to cope with the changes associated with moving to a new home. This is because a person who is stressed would tend to keep thinking, resulting in his brain still functioning aggressively even when he is already laying himself down to sleep.
Because insomnia is caused by stress and pressure either from work or from the people around us, to avoid insomnia we need to teach ourselves to let go of the sources of pressure. For example, if you are losing sleep over your work, then you should learn to leave all problems at work in the office. The moment you step out of the office, get on with your life and stop thinking about things that you could about the next day at work.
Avoid taking too much caffeine or any other stimulants during the day, especially in the office. When you have too much caffeine in your body, its effects would linger on even hours after you have consumed coffee or any other caffeine-containing beverages. Avoid afternoon naps as much as possible too.
Although it is common for people who have trouble sleeping to resort to alcohol to induce sleepiness. Alcohol is effective in making the body relaxed and sleepy because of its ?down? effects. However, when the body processes alcohol, it will cause you to urinate a bit more frequently than normal. You'd still lose sleep getting up every now and then to urinate.
