The wooden boards can be smoothed to avoid splinters, and coated to protect them from the elements ? although they really should be brought inside when the weather gets bad. The bags are usually sown from denim or burlap, and they are filled with plastic pellets. They can also be filled with dried corn or dried beans, as long as they are not allowed to get wet.
