Milan Linate Airport is one of the major airports serving the Italian city of Milan, and is located 7km (4 miles) east of Milan city centre. The airport deals with primarily domestic and short-haul international flights, and serves a number of major airlines, bringing countless tourists to Italy's fashion capital every year.

Things to see/do in Milan

Milan is a city with much to offer tourists - being as famous for its high fashion as it is for being home to Leonardo da Vinci's iconic fresco 'The Last Supper'. A visit to Milan should certainly include a trip to see the magnificent Duomo (Cathedral). The imposing building is a sight in itself, but it also houses a wealth of sacred vases in gold and silver, ancient tapestries and vestments, and rare ivories. The La Scala Opera house is another of Milan's famous building, hosting magical ballets and superb Operatic performances throughout the year. This can be quite expensive, however it is possible to find cheap tickets in some inferior seats. You will pay less, but you will also be envious of people who have shelled out for the best seats.

Da Vinci's masterpiece 'The Last Supper' can be found in the Santa Maria della Grazie - visitors should know that the painting has been subject to significant deterioration over the years, and is not as clear and colourful as might be expected. It is worth seeing nonetheless - admission is quite cheap, but it is often necessary to book, as it is such a famous attraction in such a small venue.

Another activity (or to some, a sport) in Milan is shopping. Known as a chic fashion hub of Europe, Milan is home to some of the world's most exclusive designers, and there are plenty of seriously upscale stores to be found. Budget shoppers needn't worry too much; there is ample opportunity to pick up a cheap bargain in one of the high street stores around the Piazza del Duomo.

Eating out/nightlife in Milan

Jazz clubs, martini bars, funky techno clubs, swanky wine bars, bistros, discos - and the ubiquitous Irish pub - Milan has a nightlife to suit it's stylish image. Socialites and Paris Hilton wannabes frequent Dolce & Gabbana's club Atlantique. The mode here is high fashion and, dare we say it, ever so slightly pretentious. However the club itself is good, albeit unsuitable for those on a strict budget. Drinks are not cheap, and there are plenty of good places where you will pay less for the exact same thing, you just may not be surrounded by so many beautiful people! Still, there is ample opportunity to enjoy Milanese nightlife without breaking the bank - just stick to the less glitzy spots.

In Milan, as in most Italian cities, eating is serious business. The extensive selection of wonderful Italian eateries means that whatever your taste and budget, there will be something to suit you. For low cost dining, stick to the smaller trattorias and pizzerias that are slightly off the beaten track - the meals here are not only great value, they often taste better than in some of the busier establishments.
