Car Engine Cooling System
Kenny Jones
If you want to keep your car running at it's optimum performance, it is important that you regularly have your cars coolings system checked. Your car's cooling system consists of parts such as the radiator, water pump, thermostat and hoses that all work together to keep your engine cool and running properly.
A lot of people give little thought to the proper maintenance of a cooling system. Very few people will even bother to check the level of coolant in the radiator, and instead rely on the temperature gage on the car's control panel to let them know if their car is running hot or not. Unfortunately, waiting until your temperature gage starts to rise means that damage can already have been caused to your car from overheating.
In order for your vehicle to run properly, the engine needs to be kept cool. Overheating to your car can cause severe mechanical damage, which is why it is so important to ensure that your cooling system is working properly. However, proper maintenance to the cooling system means more than just checking the amount of fluid in your radiator. You also need to check hoses for leaks, check the radiator cap to ensure it has a good seal and routinely replace the coolant that is in your system.
Taking your car to a qualified mechanic that provides these services is the best way to ensure that your car is running properly. A mechanic is better skilled at checking all of the necessary cooling system components to make sure that they are all in prime condition and not causing any problems for your vehicle. They will check radiator hoses for leaks, wear and softening, the radiator cap to ensure it is not faulty or has a poor seal, and survey the radiator to ensure there are no cracks or leaks that can cause loss of fluid.
A mechanic is also the better choice for having the coolant that is in your cooling system drained and replaced. Anti-freeze, a necessary component to your cooling system is highly toxic to animals and the environment. The mechanic will be better be able to dispose of this harmful fluid in a way that is safe. A mechanic will also be better able to properly drain all coolant from your radiator and engine, since a certain procedure is required to get all fluid from the engine itself. They will then replace the coolant with the proper mixture coolant that is needed for your car.
Providing routine maintenance to the cooling system of your car is extremely important to extending the life of your vehicle. Having a certified and experienced mechanic perform this maintenance is extremely beneficial to you, because they have the right tools and knowledge that is necessary to ensure that the job is done correctly. These services are generally not very expensive and are definitely worth the cost they take as they will save you a great deal of money by preventing damage that can be done by overheating.
