Keeping Your Sauna Clean
Jake Plumer
If you're prone to sauna neglect—or you have stubborn stains seemingly beyond your control—don't give up. We can show you how to get rid of the three most frustrating, yet common, water related deposits, rust stains and mineral buildup on the walls, hardened mineral deposits on faucets, and layered soap scum on sauna wall tile.
The key to removing tough stains is selecting the right cleaner, by choosing the right cleaner you won't have to add as much elbow grease; the cleaner will do the hard work.
We can show you the best way to remove stains on china, metal, tile, grout and fiberglass. Read the cleaners label, however, when cleaning fiberglass, stone or other man made surfaces. Use products specifically made for those surfaces.
The first step to save time is by keeping bathroom cleaning tools and supplies in one place. Keep it in or close to the bathroom and out of children's reach.
Stock the supply bucket with rubber gloves, non-scratch nylon scrubber brush, grout brush, old toothbrush, clean soft rag, large sponge, glass cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner and one all-purpose soap and lime deposit cleaner. Most all bathroom cleaning problems are a result of hard water. The cause of these bathroom-cleaning challenges is the abundance of minerals found naturally in hard water, minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron. The mineral particles stick to and create a hard scale on most every surface. And despite filters, and water softener systems that soften water by filtering out most of these particles, 90 percent of all residences have some degree of hard water.
Rust colored stains form when air combines with iron particles that then begin to rust. That's why rust stains appear below a dripping faucets. A white scale on faucet spouts and screens is a common buildup of calcium and magnesium dishwashers also can accumulate calcium. Gray soap scum layers in the shower area result when soap combines with calcium and form a sticky soap like substance.
To remove heavy mineral scale buildup on faucets, use a product with a slight acid base use according to label directions. For weekly cleaning, an all-purpose cleaner such as Comet Bathroom or Scrubbing Bubbles will work fine.
If scrubbing doesn't remove hardened mineral deposits on the filter screen, unscrew the spout tip by turning it counterclockwise. Soak it overnight in vinegar, then scrub it with the toothbrush and flush with water before reinstalling.
Use the right cleaner make sure the cleaner is safe to use on both the faucet surface and the tub, tile or sink surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Do not use all-purpose cleaners on marble or other natural stone surfaces. Buy a special stone cleaner
