Why is my carpet shedding? This is a common problem. You might notice that your carpet has bits of fuzz on it or your vacuum cleaner bag is constantly full of fuzz. So what is causing this? More than likely the cause of this is the type of carpet construction. You probably have a staple carpet. With this type of carpet the individual fibers are simply gathered into bunches. This results in a carpet that feels thicker with less actual carpet material. It also means that the carpet will always shed so unfortunately there is no solution to this problem. It will always happen.
Why are there black lines around my furniture? This is almost always because of candles. If you burn candles often, the smoke produced will eventually settle around furniture. This is very hard to remove so you should be careful when burning candles. Be sure to cut the wicks down often and burn quality candles with less contaminants in the wicks. If you do not burn candles, other sources of this problem could be an improperly adjusted furnace or a bad fireplace damper.
Why do spots keep coming back? If you have a spot that constantly returns after you spot clean it there is usually a simple explanation. You are leaving a residue behind. Next time you spot clean it, go easy on the spotter and follow it up with a solution of one part white distilled vinegar and three parts water. Sot clean it with this solution and that should remove much of the residue.
Hopefully these three tips will help you maintain your carpet. if you have more problems consult your local carpet cleaner and be sure to have regular carpet cleanings performed.
