When you think of a pool cover you usually think of a winter cover that is put on in the fall to protect your pool over the winter months however more and more summer covers are being used from he general solar cover to security covers these covers can protect the pool from kids and pets or simply help conserve heat and chemicals.

Although security covers have long been associated with winter closings do to their heavy weight and cumbersome size today's new technology have allowed for the security cover to be much lighter in weight and less cumbersome so they can be quite easily installed and protect your pool while you are on summer vacation. The security covers use a solid latching system that secures to the cement surrounding the pool.

Solar covers can add as much as 10 degree to the temperature of the pool during the summer months solar covers also reduce the evaporation of the water this conserves the heat it also helps retain the pool chemicals reducing overall operating costs. A good quality solar cover can easily pay for its self in a couple of years. It is generally more cost effective to purchase a good quality cover than a cheap cover.

As with all pool supplies and equipment you can get whatever you want in pool covers you can have a cover that is fully automatic it will open and close with the push of a button these of course are at the high end of the spectrum one step down is a cover that only opens with a button but requires you to pull the cover closed. Of course there is the fully manually cover you pull it over the pool and pull it closed or use a roller system to roll up the cover.

Although cover manufactures make cover storage and roll up equipment for most any pool configurations in ground, deck mount and aboveground pools, if your are building a new pool it is easy to design a cover track to make covering your pool easier. The easier a covering system is to operated the better chances are that the pool will be covered as kids especially seem to be more than capable of opening a cover but putting it back on when they are done is impossible with out several requests.

It does not matter if you are designing a cover system for a new pool or adding a cover system to an existing pool spending a little extra on good quality materials will pay for its self in the long run in retaining heat which will reduce heating costs and extend the swim season to retaining those expensive pool chemicals to help keep chemical usage to a minimum.
