Guide To Motor Cover
David Thomson
One of the biggest reasons for this type of insurance being expensive is age. The younger you are, the more expensive the cover will be. Companies generally take into account the lifestyle of their customers as it is, and they assume that younger drivers are perhaps a little more reckless when they are behind the wheel and lack the experience of older drivers.
Other factors that will affect the price are the type of car you drive. If you drive a sports car, for example, a vehicle that is meant to be driven at high speed, expect your premium to be higher than if you were driving a family car. The size of the vehicle's engine plays a major part in the cost of the cover.
When it comes to choosing motor cover the value of your car really comes into play. If you have just bought a brand new motor, expect to have to pay for a high level of insurance called fully comprehensive. This covers your vehicle for just about every eventuality, including any damage to your vehicle where you were to blame for the accident. If your car is not that expensive, then you may as well opt for a lower level of insurance, either third party only or third party fire and theft.
The most basic level of insurance is called third party insurance, which offers the minimum amount of protection and covers a few events that might take place when you are driving. It covers any damaged caused by you to another person or vehicle. Damage caused to your own vehicle will not be covered under third party cover and you will need to pay for it yourself. It covers any injuries that are caused to other people, including passengers. This is obviously a worthwhile aspect to your insurance policy.
Third party fire and theft does all the things that third party does, but with a couple of added extras. If your car is damaged by fire, or if there is theft, then this policy will protect against the high costs that can result.
Fully comprehensive car insurance is the main product that a lot of motorists invest in. This covers all of the problems that the third party products do, but also things like medical costs if you are involved in an accident. Also, when it comes to any of your personal belongings being damaged or getting lost while being transported in the vehicle, then if for you opt for additional cover, this type of policy will go towards the cost of repair or replacement.
Fully comprehensive motor cover does what it says on the tin – it is the most 'comprehensive' of motor insurance policies, and covers all eventualities that the average motorist will encounter. But if you are a younger driver with a less expensive car, you may find it cheaper to opt for one of the third party products.
