Instead of looking at newspaper closures as bad news, journalists should be optimistic about the future, said Tiffany Orr, managing editor of Getanewsjob.com.
"There are so many opportunities out there for enterprising journalists," said Orr.
She said laid off journalists can easily get jobs as public relations specialists, communications consultants, teachers, Bloggers, copy writers, advertising specialists, and marketers.
"I know it's possible, because I've done it," she said.
"I started off as a journalist and editor before moving on to public relations. Enterprising journalists can even use the Internet to start their own publishing empires. That's what I did, and I couldn't be happier."
Orr's site, Getanewsjob.com, is tailored to the laid off journalist. In addition to providing job hunting tips, advice, and a forum where journalists can connect with each other, it features thousands of news and communications-related jobs.
