There is so much to learn about Internet marketing that sometimes it can get overwhelming, especially if you are just starting out. What you learn can be translated into cash when you apply your knowledge to succeeding online. We hear a lot about people making obscene amounts of money online. Most of it is true. Some of it is hype.

I have been marketing online since 1993. Here are some basic rules that I use in conjunction with my marketing efforts:

Goals -Set your goals and know "exactly" what you want to accomplish with your marketing efforts.

Traffic – Set up efficient mechanisms to generate quality traffic to your site. Track and measure your traffic campaigns to see which methods work the best.

List Subscribers – Develop a list of permission-based subscribers. Send them unique offers and practical, useful information that benefits "them."

Niche Markets – Seek markets with little or no competition to sell to.

Promotion – Marketing online requires you to promote to the right people. Anything else will likely waste your time and money.

Knowledge – You wouldn't pilot a jet without training. Learn a new tactic every single day.

Plan Of Action – Develop a plan so you have a route towards your Internet success.

Consistency - Don't give up too soon. Be consistent.

Positioning – Position yourself as an expert in one or more areas so people will trust you and buy from you.

Automation – Both your marketing process and your income should be automated.

Tools – Develop an arsenal of marketing tools you must use in order to make your plans work.

Exposure – Learn all the right tactics to get high placement on the search engines as well as your target markets.

Repeat Sales – Find products that prompt the users to order more than once.

Multiplicity – Get other people to generate cash for you under 2-tier affiliate programs.

Patience – Give your efforts enough time to mature and grow.

Time Management – Organize your tasks so you don't waste time doing things that won't make you money.

These guidelines can catapult you into becoming an Internet success story.

Adwords & Adsense - Whenever possible, make sure your Adwords campaign brings people to a page that contains well-formatted, blended Adsense ad blocks for additional revenue.

Hype & Questionable Benevolence - It's everywhere. Don't believe everything you see. A lot of it is pure hype to peddle a product or service. It's this author's opinion that most real rich people do not really want to "share" their secrets. Most online campaigns are designed with two purposes in mind: a) make money and b)increasing a mailing list size.

Most of the people making a lot of money with online sales use some or all of the rules mentioned above.

Finally, it does take some money to make money. The bigger the budget, the better, especially when you use PPCs to promote affiliate programs.
