6 Self-promotional Tips For Voiceovers
Priscilla Groves
Would you like to get hired as a voice over artist and give your voice to radio or TV commercials nationwide?
This website is for voiceovers who want to promote themselves, for a reasonable price and you can be sure copywriters will find their way to your demo.
So fill in the form below, upload your .mp3 demo and become visible and heard in a few minutes!
So do you really want to make more money doing voiceover work? Here are some self-promotional, marketing tips for actors.
1. Get an agent
This is an obvious one... but the more people you have promoting your voice, the better. Some agents are the dog's B's, while others... well, the dog's S's.
2. Have an online presence
Most copywriters and producers will only source VO's online these days. Duh. CDs are dead. So you have to be online in some way shape or form. The more places, the better.
3. Email marketing
This is where you email your personal link with your voice clip on to people in the ad industry. You'll need to get a database together. You can do this by ringing up ad agencies, and requesting a name and email address of writers/producers in the building from the receptionist. This is time-consuming and tedious... but it's a good, free way for a voiceover to promote themselves.
4. Signature your emails
Set your personal URL that is linked to your voiceover demo as a signature at the bottom of EVERY email you ever send. You never know who might end up clicking on it. And what the heck, it's
free promotion.
5. Suck up
If there's an agency that you've been wanting to get in with - find out the name of the producer/writer, and invite them to one of your performances with a couple of complimentary tickets. This is a good way for you to show off your acting abilities, whilst making a big impression. Also - it won't cost you anything.
6. Personally deliver your Cd
Go around to sound studios and introduce yourself to the sound engineer personally. Give them a CD with your voiceover demo on, and ask them to listen to it. Do something cute with the packaging - attach a chocolate or something. Call the receptionist in advance to get a contact name of the sound engineer. Always have a contact name. You could do the same thing with ad agencies. Rather go personally to 10 people than blindly posting your CD to 100 randoms.
So are you a voiceover looking for more commercial work? There are sites which market the site directly to copywriters and producers in the advertising industry. They can guarantee your demo will be heard by advertising agency professionals. So if you're a talented voiceover - with or without an agent - you can join up. They usually don't take commission - a subscription fee only about €145.20 per year's listing on the site, or €18.10 monthly. Your demo will go through a quality check before you're activated online - just to make sure you're not a quack, y'see.
