More Dos And Don’ts When Writing Your Catalog
Colleen Davis
The main purpose here is not to create knowledgeable target readers for your catalogs. What you really want is to get as many people to order from your product list by filling up your order form or calling for customer service.
Let's face it, if your target readers are attracted to your products, then they won't hesitate to get in touch with you to learn more.
So if you want a powerful catalog printing copy of sorts, here are some more Do's and Don'ts for you. Who knows, you just might learn to provide your catalogs with short but strong words to get buying clients, instead of passive ones.
DO use sales strategies when writing your text.
Selling tools and words such as “Credit cards accepted”, “Free gift if you place an order now”, “Free consultation” – can work magic on your target readers. So use them as much as you can.
DON'T hide your contact numbers.
Contact numbers are very important in your catalog printing pieces. People do get irritated when they finally decided to order and can't find the phone number (or any other contact information for that matter). And although emails are very popular right now, there's no mistaking the attraction a phone number carries. People still do find calling and talking to a real person more appealing.
So in order not to get your phone numbers missed, put them in every page. This will provide ease and convenience when ordering; enough that they'll probably remember it the next time they get your custom catalogs.
DON'T forget to put the discounts.
Always include the discounts in your color catalogs. Aside from the word “free”, discounts share topbilling when it comes to attracting readers to your custom catalogs.
And don't be content with just putting it in your print material.
Find ways to make your discounts stand out. Use different ways of presenting it – 50% off! Or use graphics to emphasize the price cut.
DON'T forget to give your readers enough space.
In addition to keeping your custom print catalogs simple, don't forget to provide your readers with enough space to write their information in your order form.
DO give your target readers clear instructions.
Do it step-by-step. Give instructions in your catalog copy that are simple yet concise. Don't make your target readers second guess what the next step would be in returning your order form. Provide even a business reply envelope to make it easy for your clients to send in their order.
Lastly, do make your catalog printing project less on product numbers and item specifications. Include more descriptive and persuasive copy and you're on your way to having not only an attractive custom catalog but also an effective one.
