Following Current Design Movements
Peter Wilson
Many people think of art deco design as being outdated and a think of the past, however believe it or not there was a time when this was the newest fashion around when it came to interior decoration. Art deco was popular the first time around between 1920 and 1939. This design could be seen anywhere during these years, it was seen as the most modern and elegant form of design available for architecture and interior design. You could also see this style depicted in paintings, industrial designs and even in the popular films of the day.
Most of these popular designs will have been started as a result of some important political intentions, however art deco is different. It was not created by any form of movement, it was only created because it was so decorative. This tied in very well during the 1920's when elegance and decorative patterns were all the rate.
Few people actually know why it is called art deco, where the term art deco comes from is not a widely known fact. Researchers have suggested that the term was created due to events happening in 1925, although the name was not actually used until the 60's. The term was made popular when it was used in a book in 1968, until then few people knew about the term
All Good things have to come to an end
By the end of world war II art deco design suddenly wasn't the in thing anymore, this caused it to come to a standstill, temporarily all e it. Mass produced art deco designs cheapened the whole idea of luxury, and so rather sadly art deco was never seen as being luxurious again. Everybody could purchase art deco design now, no matter your social standing and wealth, so it's just not as popular.
Now all that has changed, Art Deco is quite popular again. There are a number of organizations who are lovingly restoring art deco buildings to their former glory. People are starting to realize the importance of these buildings as they are a part of our past. These buildings may be being used for businesses, hotels, and even private homes. There is a lot of work and effort being put in to creating genuine art deco buildings.
It's wonderful to think that something which made so many people happy so long ago is still with us today. Art deco design never died really, it is still very popular today. I expect that it will be with us long into the future. Although art deco is popular it will never be as popular as it was in its heyday!
If you want to create an art deco style design for your room then you could try searching for inspiration on the internet, there are a number of websites dedicated to helping you create that perfect look. There are also many specialist furniture manufacturers who can help you create the best look.
