You should bear in mind that clay chips are not always easy to care for. In fact you will need to look after them well to keep them looking good. If you do not do this in as little as 2 short years your clay chips will be worthless. On the other hand when you look after your chips well they will last 5-6 years. To insure this you will need to clean and oil them carefully.

How much you will need to clean your clay chips will depend on use and your care of them. It is good to note that the clay is very porous and the chips will absorb liquid easily. Invariably you will find that your chips will become stained with the food and drink that you have at your poker games. The best thing you can do to maintain your chips is to clean each one individually.

When you play poker on a weekly basis you will find that your chips will need to be cleaned every 2-3 months. Get a container of mild soap and warm water, a soft toothbrush and a cotton cloth for drying.

First, dip the toothbrush in the water and shake of the excess. Now slowly scrub your poker chips one at a time making sure you don't get the label wet. When you're done, lay each chip out to dry. Generally I'll lay my chips out overnight.

When the chips are dry you will need to rub them lightly with some oil. This will stop them from getting stained with food and beverages. It will also help to stop your chips from getting worn down.

You can purchase some mineral oil from any store. All you have to do is to take 1-2 drops on your finger tips and gently rub it on your clay chips. Repeat the action once more and when you have completed the task, leave your chips overnight on a clean surface to dry.

This may take a little while but this small investment of time is well worth it. This is because it will make certain that you will be able to enjoy your clay poker chips for a long time to come.
