Yesterday, Congress passed a bill by a ratio of 4:1 (large enough to override if the president should choose to veto) which would enable the Justice dept (one asks why the Justice dept instead of Treasury? Commerce? Highways?) to sue OPEC for price gouging and for limiting supplies of oil to America.
The bill now goes to the Senate. If it passes it will somehow subject OPEC countries such as Iran and Venezuela to heed American antitrust laws.
Another facet of the bill is that it charges the Justice Dept to create a task force to aggressively look into the gouging of gas prices and market manipulation.
Some of the things that are unacceptable about this proposal follow
Retaliation -
The number of instances where I agree with Bush's White House are very very few and far between but we agree that this legislation is a bad idea. The White House issued a statement stating that targeting OPEC investment in the United States as a source for damage awards "would likely spur retaliatory action against American interests in those countries and lead to a reduction in oil available to U.S. refiners."
The administration said less oil going to refineries would limit available gasoline supplies and raise fuel prices. Duh!
Globalism ? For any country to seek recourse against any other country someone has to be in the middle or above? Therefore such a suit would move us that much closer to the New World Order global police state since the United Nations or some other such organization is going to have to gain new powers not granted by our Constitution. How else could it be heard? The last thing we need to be doing now is adding more power to some entity that has more power than our own government.
Wrong Target ? The arrogance of the thieves in Congress never ceases to amaze. They think that they can fool all of the people all of the time? Uh uh! They try to sue OPEC for manipulation and all but what about our ?American? automotive and oil corporations (which have Congress in their pockets)? For the last 13 years or so automotive manufacturers have been equipping all new cars with a computer sensor. What purpose does it serve? It makes sure that your car doesn't get more MPG than the oil companies want your car to have! Yes, it's true. So if they didn't have that sensor our vehicles would be wasting less gasoline. Ask any mechanic that knows their business and they will confirm that.
The answer to the skyrocketing price of gasoline lies in grassroots activism and new technologies but don't hold your breath for new technologies to come from corporations. That is working at cross purposes to their religion of the holy profit
One such technology is Water4Gas.
is offering information at a low price which individuals can use at home to create a small device which infuses hydrogen into the fuel/air mixture that their car or truck runs on.
What this does is make bite sized particles out of the particles that the system uses as fuel. Therefore the system gets to use a lot more of it.
By doing this you can reasonably expect to improve your fuel economy by 30-50% or even more. Those goblets must have been pretty "blankin'" huge in some engines before. But with W4G they are made consumable so you can improve your fuel economy.
It also helps reduce emissions significantly.
