If you like watching the whimsical nature, frolicking and flitting of birds, you probably already know that bird watching in your own backyard can be amazing. It's amazing how many different species you can see. If you've never noticed many birds in your backyard, there are a few things that you can do in order to attract them. With bird baths, different types of bird feeders and a great bird house or two, it won't be very long before you have some special visitors out back.
You can find many different bird feeders available, and you will find that many of them will fall into one of three categories. There are tray feeders, tube feeders, and hoppers. Tube bird feeders are cylindrical, with landing places at the holes where the feed comes out. Tube bird feeders are ideal for various types of seed, as long as the opening is big enough for the seed to come through. Hopper feeders are more attractive to birds that could be guarded about tube or tray feeders. Tray feeders are ideal for smaller birds. If it doesn't really matter what types of birds come to your yard, and you would rather enjoy and appreciate whatever kind of visitor shows up, you can purchase a general bird seed food. The bulk of bird seed can appeal to several different varieties of birds, since it's got a number of varieties of seed. If you desire a certain bird species to come to your backyard, then you will need to include a food or seed that appeals to that particular species.
If you add a birdhouse to your backyard, there is a real chance of a bird nesting in it. Not only will they visit every so often, but if it is comfy and safe, they could decide to make it the place where they hatch their eggs. This would truly be a treat because you may get to sneak a peek at the babies periodically, or when it's time for them to start flying. A birdhouse is not only a place the birds will enjoy, but it is a delightful decoration for the backyard too. Of course, there are a variety of types, sizes and shapes of birdhouses, and the one you choose will depend on individual preferences.
Bird baths are the perfect thing to have in your yard if you'd like to attract more birds. Birds like to wade and splash around in the water, and if you keep it clean, that's even better. You can choose from the more conventional bird baths, or you can get something a little bit different, like a solar powered fountain. A bird bath with moving water will appeal to wild birds that wouldn't commonly visit a regular bath, like humming birds, robins, warblers and thrushes. Birds especially enjoy moving water, and it attracts them easily. Bird baths are also terrific looking as garden accessories. Some people love bird baths because they cause birds to come very close. A bird bath is a good opportunity to take some great looking photographs, and enjoy the birds' company.
Implementing these three things will easily make your backyard more attractive to birds. A few other easy things you can add are nooks and crannies so that the birds can hide, and aromatic flowers. If birds feel safe and secure in your backyard, they will stay longer. Have a great time backyard bird watching!
