Forties Focus Campaign
Glasses2u
Through our 'Forties Focus' campaign, Glasses2You are supporting the initiative developed to drive public awareness of the risk factors and prevalence of glaucoma which affects 70million worldwide. We want people to know the critical importance of appropriate diagnosis among ?at risk? groups (over 40's) to slow down the progression of the disease and to make aware the importance of eye tests as only eye specialist can find Glaucoma and treat it.
The 1st Annual World Glaucoma Day is to be held on March 6th. More details about this event can be found
We at glasses2you have decided to support this event by donating ?1.00 from every sale throughout March to the Glaucoma Research Foundation's awareness appeal.
All eyes on Glaucoma campaign is a global initiative sponsored by Pfizer.
Glaucoma - "the silent thief of sight"
Glaucoma refers to a category of eye disorders often associated with a dangerous build-up of internal eye pressure which can damage the eye's optic nerve that transmits visual information to the brain.
Anyone can develop Glaucoma, but risk increases with age especially as we start to progress beyond our 40s.
The damage that Glaucoma causes cannot be reversed but early detection can help save vision. Glaucoma is often referred to as the "silent thief of sight" because most types typically cause no pain and produce no symptoms. For this reason, glaucoma often progresses undetected until the optic nerve has already been irreversibly damaged, resulting in varying degrees of permanent vision loss.
Facts and further resources about Glaucoma:
A ?survey shows people over forty ignore risk of blindness? (appeared in Optical World based on a press release from All Eyes On Glaucoma campaign).
The international survey of 4,352 people aged 40 & above conducted by GFK group for the Glc campaign found eye exams being ignored by many over 40, only 2/5ths of those surveyed had visited eye specialist in the last year.
Glaucoma is the world's leading cause of preventable blindness and affects approximately 70 million people worldwide.
