5 Little Failures Leading To Dissertation Writing Failure
Alain Perry
Dissertation pertains to the final gauge that measures up how well students have understood their respective scholastic studies. This involves the actual application of all vital knowledge that every student has absorbed in his university years, duly accounted in paper.
Thus, it should come as no surprise that dissertation writing requires a significant amount of time and effort. Relative to that, there are also these seemingly insignificant oversights of the writer that will prove as critical errors in the long run, as said factors highly contribute to the failure of the dissertation project.
Beware of the five little failures:
(1) Failure to Plan
Without a clear or systematic schedule of activities, the dissertation is bound for failure. Why so? Because such a project requires not just a simple 10-page narrative, but a comprehensive study encompassing numerous levels of research and analysis. And so, with all the various tasks and activities required for the project, a strong demand for structure and organization arises. This is where the art of planning comes to the rescue.
Planning a schedule of all the dissertation tasks aids the student in better identifying all the requirements of the project, as well as distinguishing the most deciding levels of the writing process. In turn, the student will then be able to quantify and maximize the proper amount of work needed for each of those thesis stages. This makes for very efficient time management.
(2) Failure to Select the Right Topic
Working with a broad topic leads to an irrationally wide area of research, which will eventually end to writer confusion. Quite the contrary, choosing a narrow topic to trigger the dissertation process enables the writer to focus all faculties on the specific subject, thus resulting to a far more centered and detailed study.
(3) Failure to Act on Time
Given that the average period of dissertation writing lasts for one to two years, it has been a normal occurrence to witness writers slacking off and wasting supposed precious dissertation time on other endeavors. For these writers, it may seem that the assigned timeframe is lengthy enough to procrastinate for a while. But such a thought is pure misconception. Remember: the dissertation demands for a considerable amount of backbreaking work. Thus, it is better to start early and finish everything just in time (finishing early is a rare event!), than to start and finish late with a second-rate material.
(4) Failure to Maximize Relevant Resources
Dissertation is synonymous to research. This is because the result of your research greatly corresponds to the final outcome of your dissertation. Thus, it is imperative that writers maximize all the research and resources that can be gathered.
(5) Failure to Motivate Oneself
Due to the long duration of dissertation writing as well as various problems appearing along the way, sleep-deprived writers tend to lose their enthusiasm on the project. In these miserable yet understandable states, writers must focus their minds in remaining enthusiastic and motivated to continue doing the project well. Unleashing all the exhaustion and woes to swirl around will only negatively affect the dissertation writing process.
Indeed, these five failures may all seem minor in nature, but they form to create major headaches for the writer. Keep in mind to avoid these oversights for a more efficient and less stressful .
