If I have the time to promote my web blog, there are a few things that I would like to implement so that my site is not languishing in the dust, lost and forgotten and has never seen the light of day :-) But alas! Time is not something I have in my hand for my personal site as there are too many things I have to do, like working for 5 clients at the same time - which is in itself a feat already to make.
The first technique I would like to do is to submit my blog site and my rss feed to many blog directories and rss submissions site to get maximum exposure for my site. This will give me the chance to network with other bloggers who have the same interest and request for a link exchange, or I can be a guest writer on their blog site that that will have a link back to my site.
I would also like to submit my free articles to top article directory submission sites as this is sure to give me one way link to my site and the exposure is good and the audience you get are targeted to your niche, so if you are selling something the traffic you get from article submission is more likely to take action because they were brought there by your article and they wanted to know more.
Another technique would be take advantage of social bookmarking sites. I would have to include bookmarking buttons on my home page so that people who visit my site (if there are) can easily bookmark any article they find interesting. This goes a long way because this people will have their own network of friends and they are more likely to share an article they find worth reading. I would also like to create link baits. If I can write one very good article, most likely it will find it's way to the online community and be shared by everyone.
Trackback is another technique I would like to implement although I would never attempt to explain how it works as it takes a more experienced seo expert to do it. All I know is that if you write about an article you found very interesting and make a link, the site owner will look at your site if you're worth linking back to. This is very good technique especially if the site you're commenting/writing about is a popular one. Just hope and pray that if your write something good, they'll find your site worth linking back to.
There are actually a lot more one can do to promote a blog site if you have the time and if you really want to improve your PR. I on the other hand just like to write about anything to express what's on my mind, and if people will go to my site and find it interesting-that's a plus. Maybe later, if my workload is not as hectic as it is, I can give my blog site some TLC and improve traffic. I tell you I'm no expert at blog promotion as my site is never heard, but these are the techniques I found on my research as part of my work for another client.
