Bad Breath Can Kill Your Confidence
Kelvin Ho
Halitosis can also lead a person to avoid relationships because they might be concerned about rejection or turning off other people. Some people with this problem can simply avoid trying to have any kind of social life at all. They have probably already experienced rejection at the hands of other people, and wind up feeling that it is easier just to stay home alone than to risk continued embarrassment.
If you have had the experience of being told your breath smells, or having someone avoid kissing you, you know first hand how embarrassing it can be. You may even feel tremendous guilt for putting others through your foul breath. However, the fact is that you do not have to be embarrassed or guilty about your problem. This is because there are plenty of options for taking care of this common problem.
Bad Breath Medications
Once you are convinced that there are steps you can take to eliminate halitosis, you will hopefully be encouraged to take action and once again have an active social life. Every day, new options are being made available for treating halitosis. Some by using prescription medications and others through natural remedies.
You can find a variety of over the counter remedies for halitosis which take advantage of the properties of natural and herbal ingredients, if you prefer to use those. In addition, there are traditional over the counter remedies available too. A good resource for learning how you can treat your halitosis, and which option is best for you, is to speak with your dentist. Schedule a visit to discuss this especially if you are suffering from long term, chronic bad breath.
Your dentist is a good source of alternatives and can provide you with a prescription or recommendation for good over the counter remedies available. You can also find excellent resources and information on the Internet. Try searching for the term halitosis, and you will see that there are thousands of sites available on the subject to help.
Oral Hygiene
The bets way to improve halitosis and to get back your confidence in social situations is to improve your daily oral hygiene with just a few easy steps. You hold always brush your teeth at least twice a day, or after every meal if possible. Be sure to rinse your mouth well afterward as well.
Another tip is to brush your tongue as well as your gums when you brush your teeth. Try using a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol as the alcohol will cause dryness in your mouth. Dry mouth and less saliva means that saliva is not doing its job of keeping your mouth clean, as it helps remove bacteria in your mouth. After you brush, you should floss your teeth at least once per day. This is to dislodge the food that may be stuck between your teeth. Any food left there can be a home for bacteria that causes bad breath.
Other causes of halitosis could be due to diseases such as gum disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal trouble or diabetes. Your breath condition will only improve if the underlying disease is treated and cured.
Clearly it will take some work to change your habits or treat problems causing bad breath. One way to help is to modify your diet to contain healthy foods and reduce your intake of strong food, like garlic and onion, or highly spiced foods. If you are meeting someone on a date for the first time, try to avoid eating anything too strong. If you are plagued by bad breath, it would be better to indulge in your favorite spicy foods when you are not in a social setting.
