Easy Meditation Techniques Anyone Can Learn
Art Stanley
It costs nothing to experience the profound effects of a powerful meditative session, though it does take some practice to get to the point where you can enjoy the profound peace, as well as the other benefits associated with this ancient practice.
There are many different ways to meditate. All have value. For the purposes of this short article, we'll focus on some easy meditation techniques you can apply today to experience the magic of meditation for yourself.
Just remember that each of us experiences meditation at little differently. The best advice is to don't try to force anything. Just go with the flow and allow yourself to enjoy your few moments of silence. It's well worth it.
Strive only to reach a deep level of peace. If you go into your session expecting to see a white light or to hear a preconceived voice of guidance, you're setting yourself up for failure. These things -- or something else entirely may happen. But don't be discouraged if in your first attempt to make a conscious connection with your higher power, it doesn't quite happen.
Stay with it. Each session will build upon the one before and soon you'll have reached such a profound state of connection and bliss that nobody could stop you from indulging in a daily dose of meditation.
Step number one is to find a peaceful quiet location free from distractions. If you're using a meditation or visualization CD, queue it up now.
Find a comfortable chair, preferably one that allows you to keep your back straight and the energy flowing.
Next, simply close your eyes and begin to breathe deeply, slowly and naturally. As you breathe in, see the oxygen as rejuvenating and replenishing your body. And as you breathe out, imagine that you're simply letting go of every care and concern.
With each breath, allow your mind and body to sink further into a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful state of mind. One of the easy meditation techniques I often rely on is the "Stair Countdown". Imagine that you're on the top stair and as you take each step down, you become more deeply relaxed. Try counting down from 10 to 1 and by the time you reach 1, you'll be in a much more relaxed state.
Shoot for a 15 minute session in total. As you relax, random thoughts will enter your mind. Just let them leave as quickly as they arrived. Allow them to float on by. Your mind isn't used to meditation, so it naturally kicks out one thought after another. The more you can let these thoughts go and simply focus on the relaxing pleasure of your deep sense of peace, the more effective your meditation.
It doesn't take much, but it does take repetition. Don't expect to nail it on your first try. Simply follow these easy meditation techniques and allow yourself the gift of profound peace and so much more.
