Blogs are free and easy to set-up and are very effective in putting your articles, videos, websites, etc. on the Web. Forums can also be found for free and every time you submit a topic or a reply it builds links to your website so long as you have your website in the "signature". Lastly, there are so many free classified ads services online and off that you can submit to these all day long and not even scratch the surface. All you have to do is look.
The thing is, there are some areas where free can be as good or better than paying for services. These are basic examples that anyone can use to promote any business with little or no money to invest promoting their site(s).Yes, this will take more persistence and work, but the efforts pay off over the long haul. If you want to pay for a service, check the company or sites track record, post questions to forums, and see what responses you will get. Try to use insight from those who have already took the hard road and follow the paved street they have left in their wake.
