Caring For Travertine Flooring
Marlon Allen
Travertine flooring is rising in popularity. It is one of the most durable and long lasting stone flooring options. Travertine will not chip or break as easily as other stone flooring, plus it has a great consistency which is hard to find with other stone flooring. It's popularity has led many to use it in their homes, but they are left wondering how to care for it.
First off, it is important for a person to understand that travertine flooring is not for every room of the house. While it is durable and can stand up to traffic, it is not good for areas where liquids could be easily spilled on it. Due to the formation of the travertine it is very porous. Even polished travertine is still porous and liquids will soak in easily, leaving stains. By using travertine flooring in an appropriate area a person is going to get the most life from it.
In general, travertine floor care involves the daily chore of just keeping dirt and debris away. Dirt and debris can sand down travertine so it is important to make sure it is cleaned regularly to avoid build up of debris.
To begin a person should dust mop the floor with a clean dust mop. The floor should then be cleaned with a stone cleaner. Cleaner should be used sparingly as it can leave behind streaks or stains. After cleaning with the wet solution it should be dry mopped to rid it of any witnesses.
It is important to dust mop everyday. The wet cleaning can be done as needed to keep the floor looking clean. It is important to avoid using cleaners on travertine flooring that contains acid or are abrasive as both will wear down the surface.
Caring for a travertine floor is not going to be any harder then caring for any other flooring, but regular care must be done to ensure the floor stays looking its best and lasts for a long time.
