Stop Smoking Addiction Habits
Patricia Stevens
No matter how you look at it, smoking is a very addictive problem. Often times, it is a problem that's very hard to quit. However, there are many reasons why you should quit smoking. Some of the reasons may seem like common sense, while others you may not have thought of. Not only are there many health benefits for those who quit smoking, but there are financial benefits, as well.

No matter how you look at it, smoking is a very addictive habit. Often times, it is a habit that is very hard to quit. However, there are many reasons why you should quit smoking. Some of them may seem like common sense, while others you may not have thought of. Not only are there many health benefits for those who quit smoking, but there are financial benefits, as well.
First and foremost, if you quit smoking you will live a longer, healthier life. Research has shown that each time light up, you are taking approximately 5 to 20 minutes off your life span.
Smoking also increases your risk for various cancers, heart attack, emphysema and stroke. However, by choosing to quit smoking, you dramatically decrease your chances of having such illnesses.
Smoking also increases the risk of premature blindness. People who smoke are nearly four times more likely to suffer from blindness due to age-related macular degeneration. In smokers over the age of 65, mental health functioning declines nearly 5% faster than that of a non-smoker. Therefore, smokers are at a greater risk of developing Alzheimer's, even if there is no family history of dementia or Alzheimer's.
Men who smoke have a greater chance of developing impotence. Men who smoke more than a pack of cigarettes every day are more likely to have erectile dysfunction, than non-smokers. Therefore, if you are experiencing troubles in the bedroom, you may want to quit smoking.
Not only does smoking pose a health risk to the smoker, but it also poses a health risk to others around them. Second hand smoke can seriously affect those that live with you, especially young children. Research has shown that second hand smoke can be even more dangerous that the actual smoke that is inhaled by the smokers.
Smoking while you are pregnant can have severe adverse affects for the unborn baby. As well, once the baby is born he or she will face a whole new set of challenges. Since smoking is known to reduce the amount of carbon monoxide in a person's bloodstream, it thereby reduces the levels of oxygen available to the unborn baby. If you do not quit smoking while pregnant, your unborn child can be born severely underweight.
It has also been proven that when people smoke around a pregnant woman, there are adverse affects on the unborn baby's health and development. So even if the mother to be does not smoke, it is still important for those around her to quit smoking.
Another great reason to quit smoking around an infant is that smoking dramatically increases a baby's chances of dying from SIDS. A newborn baby who is around a smoker also has a greater chance of suffering from colic.
Smoking is also extremely expensive. With the rise in cost of cigarettes, smoking can often times be a financial burden. Therefore, if you quit smoking, think of the money you could end up saving each year.
So no matter what reason you choose to quit smoking, realize there are a great number of benefits. Smoking not only affects you, but it affects those around you. So the next time you go to light up a cigarette, keep in mind the number of health and financial burdens caused by smoking.
No matter what reason you have to quit smoking, remember there're a great number of benefits. Smoking not only affects you, but it affects those around your area. Next time you go to light up a smoke, keep in mind the number of health issues and money burdens caused by smoking.
