Everything You Need To Know About Private Investigator Contracts In The Usa
Steve Jamison
The private investigator contracts are in large part designed to protect the financial aspect to the profession. A contract will be drawn up between the private investigator and the client that he/she is serving. It will generally state that regardless of the outcome of the investigation, whether the client receives the end result from the private eye or not, the client is still required to pay the set fees. Private investigator contracts are there to also state in clear writing that the work will be carried out by the said private eye and the agency connected to it, if there is one.
Private detective work is not magic and often when clients are dissatisfied with the work, they will refuse payment. This is not acceptable as the private investigator donates valuable time and priceless resources to try to crack a case for the client. The investigator may incur travel expenses or other costly expenses on behalf of the client. Private investigator contracts can and have held up in the courts due to the clear statement of not guaranteeing results and the client must have a complete understanding of these guidelines before taking on any private eye for hire.
Alternatively, private investigator contracts are drawn up to protect the interests of the client also. If a client can prove that said stated investigator is not doing what he was hired to do, he can challenge the contract as a blatant contract breach. The investigator is required to do his part as well in order to earn the income from the agreement. Private investigator contracts can benefit both parties involved. This is not a common occurrence however; most private investigators take their work very seriously and are often retired police officers or security workers.
Before hiring any private investigator, you should both be extremely clear on what is required of you as a client, and the investigator before signing any contract. Private investigators can charge a lot of money for their services so pay particular attention to the fine print on the contract before agreeing on any contract and certainly before signing any contract.
