You can't avoid seeing them. Yes, I'm talking about the gazillions of work at home internet business programs. Most of them we ignore, yet some catch our attention and, especially in this time of economic hardship and lost income, we want to believe what they promise. After all, with so many online business opportunities out there for so long, somebody must be making money with them, right? So, having decided to give it a try, how do you know how to choose the right Internet business? You want to make an informed decision, not an emotional one.
Upon reading whatever the first contact is you should understand that the person contacting you is not usually the person who produced the product (that is the essence of affiliate marketing, where one person sells another's product for a percentage of the sale price), but you should ask yourself if the form of advertising matches the claims made within. For example, is it likely that a millionaire is posting advertisements with horrific spelling errors or posting hand lettered signs on lawns?
If the advertisement passes your initial "common sense" test follow the link to the internet business program's sales page which will likely ask you to enter a name and e-mail address. Very few affiliates are foolish enough to sell or "rent" their e-mail lists these days, but play it safe and use an e-mail address that you do not use for personal or work related communication. Gmail, Hotmail, etc., are great for this, especially if there is a time limit for joining. Such limits are usually based upon the e-mail address (though more sophisticated ones are IP based). If so, and you decide later to look into it, you can use another e-mail address to do so. In any case, while time limits and price increases are normal, be wary of hard sell tactics when trying to choose the right Internet business.
Read the page carefully. When you're done, read it again! Ask yourself this one all-important question: Has the page given you any valuable information? You see, most all internet business sites will tell you some hard luck story and that's okay (everybody has one, right?). They will also show you how much money they made in x amount of time and that's okay, too (who wants a program that DOESN'T make money?). They will also have testimonials and that's good (so long as they are from people who actually are working their way up with that system). But, when all is said and done, what has the site actually told you about the program itself? Never mind what it says it isn't or what you can do with all the money you'll make - what does it say about what you actually will be doing and how you will be doing it? Does it give you hard facts, techniques, or resources - the very things you need to choose the right Internet business? If not, sleep on it before you buy anything. Yes, it may be legitimate and, if it is, it will still be there tomorrow.
