Most network marketers and direct sellers prospect people, pique their interest, present the opportunity... and then go off in a huff when the prospect knocks them back. If you let your emotions get the best of you, you're doomed and you'll never experience any level of success in MLM. You'll get mad, frustrated, and eventually you'll quit. This is the main reason hardly anyone ever makes a good living from MLM.
Your success is simply a mindset and a very simple choice. So if you're ready to succeed, here are 3 simple mindset shifts that will help you maximize your sales and recruiting.
1) You have to always remember that effective marketing in your small business is a must to stay profitable and worthwhile. This unfortunately is just a part of the process, so don't try and re-invent the wheel. (Unless you just want an expensive and very time consuming hobby)
The upside to belly-to-belly marketing is that you can create rapport much easier and establish better relationships than with traditional marketing methods. The negative side of this is rejection and dealing with knock bacs repeatedly. And those rejections can sting a lot, if you let them.
One way to let go of the sting is to realize that in marketing, most people are going to say no. I would be lying to you if I said that anyone (even the guru's) got a sale from every single prospect or lead, while you can increase your sales conversion by targeting better quality leads, you'll never win them all, it's statistically "Impossible". In traditional network marketing, their marketing campaigns are designed around "The Numbers Game" and getting only a fraction of those approached to say yes!
Now I'm not saying that you should be happy with a closing ratio of a very small percentage, because in direct sales, it will be higher. The truth is however, a lot of people will feel pressure and SAY NO. That's part of the game. So don't get emotional when everything works out that way - it's supposed to.
2) Recruit DESIRE, not POTENTIAL. Your ultimate success in MLM is based entirely on how skillful you are at finding the minority of people who "Want" to succeed in life and business and working with them, not approaching the masses. If you've ever been in any MLM business for any length of time, you're going to experience the hyperdrive of excitement from their latest "hot" recruit. "He could be SO GOOD" in this business.
The issue and reality is, every single sane adult on this planet, COULD be awesome network marketers if they knew how and chose to "ACT" upon it. Everyone who can communicate can do well in MLM. But success is a choice; this is not about ability or individual persona. What a lot of people get frustrated about with potential, is the fact that most people are "Gonna's" not "Doer's".
So please refine your prospecting filters to those who don't just have "Potential" to make it, as everyone has potential, only go after those who are really committed and "want it" at almost any cost for themselves.
Recruit desire. Teach the skillset later.
3) Stop trying so hard. Prospecting and recruitment can be fruitless, if you approach it incorrectly. You've still got to take action, but there's a big difference between effort and action.
When you know your true purpose for working your business, and all of your actions are aligned with your values, the whole process can actually become fun - it doesn't feel like 'effort' at all.
The thing that makes prospecting and finding new leads 'difficult" is your emotional effort. But when you take the emotion out, there's nothing hard about it. You must target your market and segregate the ones who actually "WANT" what you have, then give it to them without any "Barriers" to saying no. Simple.
I'm not indicating that you de-emotionalize your MLM marketing approach, as people relate and act on emotion. However as far as actions work out, emotion is the enemy.
When you have a different "Pressure Free" marketing mindset and prospecting system, you will succeed as much as you want in network marketing.
