Visitor Medical Insurance plans are available for visitors who visit the US. There are several plans one can choose from. You cannot compare two plans solely on cost; there are different features in visitor health insurance plans that make each plan different. You must understand the plan details before you purchase a plan.
1. Comprehensive plans and Fixed benefit plans: This is a big difference between plans. Comprehensive plans are more expensive than the fixed benefit plans. Comprehensive plans provide coverage up to the policy maximum. For expenses up to the plan limit out of pocket expenses are capped to the deductible and the co insurance. Fixed benefit plans have certain pre set maximum that will be paid for each eligible expense. A policy that offers a total $100,000 benefit may have a limit of $2000 for surgery, $500 for x rays, lab work etc.
2. Co insurance: Co insurance can be defined as a preset proportional sharing of expenses between the insured and the insurance company. Plans have different co insurance percentages. Some may require little or no co insurance and some may require a high proportional payment. For example in a 70/30 co insurance rate plan, the insured must pay 30% of the eligible expenses and the insurance company pays 70%.
3. Deductible: It is the amount that must be paid by the insured before the insurance company pays for any covered service. Once the deductible is met the insurance will cover eligible expenses. The higher the deductible, lower the premium.
4. Pre existing conditions: While coverage is usually not available for pre existing conditions, it is still prudent to find out how pre existing conditions are defined by the insurance company. Some plans will exclude coverage only for those conditions that the insured knew about and was receiving treatment before the start date of the insurance. Some others may exclude all those conditions that may have begun before the start of the plan even if the person had no knowledge of the condition.
5. Plan Limit: The price of a plan also depends on the maximum amount the plan will pay for all claims for the insured. A plan that offers maximum 50K coverage will be cheaper than one that offers 100K coverage. Some plans may offer per incident/per injury maximum and some offer a maximum coverage for the entire policy period.

Visitors Health Insurance Usa
Traveling is beings looked upon as an idyllic holiday alternative by many people. People travel for myriad reasons. Some people may want to indulge in sight seeing while others may want to visit their relatives. Some people travel frequently for business purposes. Thus, leading insurance companies are looking at visitor medical insurance as a lucrative product that has instant market appeal.
Generally people would join a visitors insurance for making provisions for sudden expenses they may need to bear during their visit. Basically the idea of visitor insurance is similar to the other types of insurance like life insurance, etc. The insurance companies collect money from you in the form of premium and combine it with the premiums received from other customers to form a central pool of money.
This money is utilized to pay the medical bills of contributors who may require medical assistance while visiting a foreign country. A visitor remains insured as long as he continues to pay the premium. The utility of the insurance scheme is accounted for in the manner in which it can be subscribed to. A person can insure the health of another person who may wish to travel. It is not essential to be physically present in order to have a policy in one's name.
It is recommended to purchase an insurance policy from the country you visit rather than purchasing it from your native country. Although the premiums of such plans are exorbitant, it will be easy to claim the compensation that has been guaranteed. Also all the doctors and hospitals in the foreign country accept the insurance cards of the companies they are native to.
The doctors and clinics are generally reluctant to accept the cards of some other country or certain medical institutes may not be familiar or associated with your native insurance providers. It becomes easy for the hospitals and clinics to get in touch with the native office if any problem regarding insurance policy arises. The same thing would be difficult or even impossible if the insurance have been purchased in a foreign land.
Once visitors insurance is purchased, the insurance holder is given an identification card that needs to be displayed at the time of seeking medical assistance from a hospital or doctor. The insurance company will furnish such a clinic or hospital with written instructions for the likely medical expenses that can be claimed under the policy.
After this any claim that you make, will be evaluated by the insurance company and it will make the hospital or clinic appropriate payments on your behalf. Some companies also cover injuries under visitor medical insurance and visitor health insurance which you may have to bear because of accidents, war or terrorist activities. Depending upon the plan, the companies may either reimburse the costs you incur during the treatment or it can also directly pay your bills at the concerned clinic or hospital.
