Water damage may occur throughout the year due to various reasons that are man made or occurred naturally. On very few occasions we pay careful attention to the facts and take necessary preventive measures to cope with the situation. If we neglect any form of condition that would lead to water damage, we might have to suffer greater losses in the future than we generally think of. The freezing weather, in most of the nations, is the biggest examples of such scenario, where the water damage has been aggravated by the Freezing weather.



Freezing weather heightens the damage of individual property than is generally thought of by the general people. During the winter water damage proportions increase rapidly with the increase in the volume of water. When water turns into ice it increases considerably in volume exerting tremendous pressure on the boundary of the containers. Whenever it does not get a free passage to expand, water tries to rupture the containers and break free leading to water damage.

It is to be noted that freeze damage is also an unwanted effect, like that of water damage and is often observed in uninhabited places, where the people have left for a long period of time. These people try their level best to drain their pipelines before leaving and also adding antifreeze to the pipe fixtures. Although this is the process to follow it does not turn out to be effective in most of the cases; the reason being that the pipeline was not drained completely or the anti-freeze did not work.

Even at times water damage is caused due to the seepage of water through the cracks of the materials. This feature becomes more common during the freezing weather, as tiny amount of water entering the crack may forcefully widen it when it turns to ice and increases in volume. As the crack widens up, it makes space for more water to seep in and rupture the entire substance slowly but gradually, basic trait of water damage. This is how walls seem to develop wider cracks over the winter and tend to collapse in a few years time.

The same thing goes with the pipeline, which have to be completely drained or else the expansion of water into ice would put considerable pressure on the pipe. This could open up an already existing leak or a crack into a big fissure, thus damaging the pipe so bad that it cannot be used anymore. For this reason people should be very careful during the months of winter where the chances of water damage are aggravated much more by the freeze damage.

Occurrences like these are often seen in the places high in the North Hemisphere, where people tend to stay away from their home, somewhere in the Southern parts to get away from the cold. The preventive measures taken by them are often not enough to withstand the freeze damage of these months. Thus, it can be seen that a minute property like that of volume expansion may accelerate the proportions of water damage to another significant level.
