With over twenty thousand webhosting companies competing for new customers, there's been a lot of speculation over what people are looking for when they purchase hosting.

There are the obvious answers, of course - reliable servers, lots of features, reasonable prices, etc.

One thing that is almost always overlooked though, and I believe most people are looking for this, is "relationship". After eight years in this business, it's been my experience that cultivating good relationships with my clients is the best way to keep existing customers and attract new business.

I once attended a seminar put on by a business coach. One thing he said that has always stuck with me is that 'business' is just something we use as an excuse for interacting with people we enjoy.

There's a lot of truth to that. We like to do business with people and companies which we like to do business with - not necessarily those which give the best price or even those that do the best job.

That's where I think most webhosting companies have missed the boat.

While we can't ignore essential elements of the business, like uptime and security, we must always remember that those faceless clients who subscribe to our services are real, living, breathing people with very real feelings, worries, and concerns. The better we can get to know our clients on a personal basis, the better we can address those worries and concerns.

Aside from the monetary benefits of fostering an atmosphere of goodwill, there are some really wonderful personal benefits as well.

I never know what my day may bring when I sit down at my telephone. Perhaps I'll hear from James, our hollywood celebrity, or maybe I'll talk to Ken, a retired state trooper. Maybe John, a Los Angeles talk show host, will give me a ring. Perhaps I'll spend a few minutes chatting with Richard in San Antonio or Andy in The Bronx. I never know - but I'm always delighted to find out - just who is on the phone when I answer.

If you truly enjoy other people, it will show in your voice, and the person on the other end of the line will hang up feeling that someone who really cares paid attention to them and their problem.

Here's the catch, though. You can't fake it. People are incredibly perceptive, and they'll immediately brand you as a phony if you're not sincere.

If, however, you really do like your clients and enjoy interacting with them - the benefits to them and you will exceed anything you can possibly imagine.

There are many things you will need to consider when you will be selecting a good web hosting plan for your website and if you are not technically knowledgeable or aware of how things function, always get a professionals opinion as there are so many factors in this subject that it is nearly impossible to grasp them all completely in a short time as you will have to understand the whole mechanism and process that entails web hosting.

Simply put, there are two kinds of websites, one is dynamic and the other is static. The ones you would normally come across are the static ones and most probably your own would be a static website and these are hosted on shared hosting. In shared hosting, groups of websites even though they have their own individual space on the hosting server all have the same IP (which stands for Internet protocol). An IP is the identity of your website and if your pages are going to remain same like websites which detail an outline of a company, contact, etc than this is the hosting technology for you.

If you are planning to host a commercial website which is meant to do business on the Internet by exchanging personal information and financials as a buy and sell or auction website, then you would require a dedicated hosting. In dedicated hosting your website will have its own IP (Internet protocol) which will enable you to have your own independent identity for digital certificates which you will require to do business online. Dynamic websites are much more complicated because they all need a back end database on which their information is processed and stored while being continuously changed. This link to a back end database makes it unique compared to the static website where everything remains the same unless the website developer changes the information or text, etc.

In order to be successful in this endeavor, you have to start by creating your own list of what you expect from your web hosting company, do you need a shared or dedicated hosting, how many e-mails do you need, what other features are required by you in order to make your website successful, these are the main factors which govern a successful selection. Some people start out by looking for the lowest priced or cheapest web hosting service, which is one of the most incorrect ways to start. Price is a major factor in any business but if your selection is primarily based only on price than most probably you will be looking towards a very anxiety filled and perplexed future for your website and yourself. The success of your website will be very much dependent upon a good web hosting and if you make an incorrect decision in this stage, the benefit of making the website could back fire as when people visit your website it might not open or open too slow which is something you would not want to happen.
