One of the main things people think about early on in the planning of their wedding is the invitations and save the date cards/chocolates.
Stationery reflects the style of your event and your personal style. Traditional or contemporary, today's invitations offer a variety of options to help set the tone.
Guest Lists
So you have a date and a venue and now you have to make the agonising decision of who to invite? Do we invite Aunt Julie who has a problem with us being a same sex couple?
The answer is simple. This day will be your day and you should not feel uncomfortable. Many same sex couples fight prejudice every single say of their lives and your big day is a day that you should not have to.
If you are having a ceremony and evening reception, compile two lists. One for the guests you would like to attend the signing and another for your evening guests for distant relatives and friends. Bear in mind what your budget is at all times!
Save The Date
Ok so first thing is first, you need to let your prospective guests know the keep the date of your wedding free. One of the most cost effective ways to do this is to send save the date cards.
It is suggested trying to send save the date cards out about 6 months in advance if you can, especially if you are planning to have a weekday wedding. This allows your guests to make sure they have booked time off work etc.
The Invitations
Once you have determined the number of guests you plan to invite, select and order your invitations. Allow at least two months before your special event (Less if you have sent save the date) so you will have plenty of time for addressing, mailing and receiving responses, if you have a wedding planner this can be managed by them.
Wedding invitations can be purchased from a number of locations, wedding shows, mail order, printers and many more.
Traditionally, the wedding invitation is a double sheet of white or ivory card stock, with the message in black ink on the outside, and blank on the inside. Contemporary invitations come in many colors, often using colored inks.
Most invitations will come with other stationery in the group like order of service cards, RSVP cards, Menu cards and so on. Don't get carried away and have a wedding full of stationery. Always bear in mind your budget and style for your big day.
What Else Shall We Include In the Invitation
Generally people like to include further information on the big day. Examples of this might be a map or guest list for your gifts.
Some people also set up a web page and include this on the invite for people to log on to and get information on the venue, days events and local places to stay.
You may also want to include a RSVP card to make it easier for your guests to send the reply back to you.
Wedding Cake With Fondant
No wedding is complete without it. A wedding cake is a symbol of the union of two individuals'.It is a time-honored tradition that deserves to be more than just a reception centerpiece. Wedding cakes need to be unique and different. Over the years the traditional three tiered cake has given way to more creative designs with luscious fillings and innovative toppings like exotic fruits and flowers. While planning a wedding cake, it is important to keep a few basic things in mind to ensure your wedding cake is the talk of the day.
Size of the cake
To decide on the size of the cake you would have to know how big your guest list is. Bakers normally take orders months in advance and hence it is imperative that you plan your guest list first so you know how many people to cater for. It would definitely look bad if guests had to return home without having a slice of the wedding cake. If your guest list is small, but you still want a big cake and do not want to waste it either, rely on your bakers' creativity. Wedding cakes with dummy tiers and pillars appear to be large in size but do not really increase serving sizes.
Design of the cake
There is a multitude of options for wedding cake designs. Bakers are constantly trying to outdo each other and come up with exquisite customized designs with handcrafted edible cake decorations to woo prospective brides and grooms. A popular option in recent times has been the use of cupcakes arranged in tiers in the shape of a traditional tiered cake. If your wedding has a theme, wedding cakes can also be designed in a similar fashion. Also discuss the colors you would like to be used on the cake with the baker so that the cake can be tailored to look exactly the way you want. You can also choose your design from various online resources available or even have your baker copy a celebrity wedding cake design for that touch of glamour.
Flavor of the cake
There are numerous flavors in cakes that you can choose from. Chocolate has always been a hot favorite. But always ensure you do not experiment with a new flavor unless you have tried it before and think that all your guests will like it as well. Many couples are now opting to move away from the traditional fruit cake or vanilla cake filling and choose new varieties of fillings like mocha, strawberry and white or dark chocolate. Cream cheese icing and rolled fondant icing is also a popular choice these days. Multi-flavored cakes are a good option when you want to give your guests a wider choice.
A wedding cake is the highlight of the reception and the topic of discussion at many a wedding, coming second only to the bride and groom .It is often the focus of almost all wedding photographs. To create such an impact ensure that your wedding cake is an elegantly designed work of art which is just as good as the occasion and is talked about even days or years after the event.
