Presbyopia (reading blur) is a condition of the eyes in which close visual acuity is lost due to the stiffening of the lens and the ciliary muscle. (This is the circular muscle around the lens that causes it to change shape to see clearly at different distances.) Presbyopia describes the condition where the eye exhibits a progressively diminished ability to focus on near objects with age. It is also known as reading blur.



Presbyopia is caused by aging and symptoms are usually first noticed about the age of 40. Presbyopia is a natural process which causes difficulties reading small print. It can even cause eyestrain and blurred vision when changing your viewing distance. People who suffer from reading blur usually must hold their reading material at arm`s length to be able to read properly or they may feel fatigued or have a headache when performing near work, such as embroidery or handwriting.

The lens inside your eye is just losing its flexibility. Presbyopia just seem to occur suddenly but actually it is a process which lasts for years.

Here are the possible treatments:

1) Using glasses could be the cheapest way if you use them properly and do not damage them. It is not the most comfortable way though because everyone will see that you have problems with your eyes and it is easy to break the glasses. They can be an obstackle if you go in for physical activities although you do not have to wear them all the time - just put them on when you are reading!

2) Lenses is an option and it is the most common correction method. There are many kinds of different lenses made for presbyopes: bifocal lenses, progressive addition lenses and multifocal contact lenses.

3) It is possible to overcome Presbyopia without using any lenses or wearing glasses. It can be reversed using just a few simple activities on a day-to-day basis and keeping a healthy lifestyle. I am talking about the famous Janet Goodrich Method. It is not as popular as using lenses or glasses but it is interesting and enjoyable.

4) You can allways correct your vision with an eye surgery. It is the fastest and easiest way but it is not cheap and my advice is to allways think twice.
