Despite repeatedly being overlooked in favour of Manchester, Leeds is a bustling Northern municipality. It has a population of almost 450 000 and attracts loads of shop travellers, too.Thanks to its numerous sites of importance, Leeds is also a leading tourist location.



Many industries show contributed to Leeds' wealth, but the place is particularly noble for its clothing trade. There are several well known names associated with the municipality, including Thomas Chippendale who lead creating his recognized furniture there, and Michael Marks - of Marks and Spencer - who opened his premier Penny Bazaar there in 1884.In addition to this, it is also home to the extraordinary Kirkgate Market. The market is Europe's second largest indoor market after Leicester and is open 6 days a week. There are over 400 stalls inside the market and a further 200 altered from. It attracts over 100 thousand visitors per week.Kirkgate Market key opened in 1822 as an open air market and the fundamental covered sections were erected between 1850 and 1875. Unfortunately, much of the building, except the Vicar Lane frontage, was destroyed in a 1975 fire. Withal, the Market was refurbished in the early 1990s and following this, Kirkgate Market was upgraded from a Grade II to a Grade I listed building.

Leeds has a fabulous shopping middle, which has a store to suit any budget. Indeed, you will find high end shops in the city's Victoria Quarter, including branches of Harvey Nichols, Flannels and other designer stores.In the Headrow middle, you will spot cheaper high street stores these as Primark, Top Shop and Miss Selfridge.

If the fast pace of Leeds' center life gets too much for you, you will be pleased to know that the conurbation has some elegant green spaces, including the award winning Millennium Gardens. These charming gardens were made, at a cost of 12 million pounds to celebrate the year 2000. The striking gardens won a medal at the 2004 Chelsea Flower demonstrate.If you would prefer to spend your time doing more cultured pursuits, you will be pleased to know that Leeds has nine preeminent museums and art galleries. These include the Royal Armouries Museum and the sensational Leeds metropolis Art Gallery, so you are unfailing to pinpoint one that you delight in.

Lastly, any tourist seeing Leeds should ensure that they experience its night life. With enjoyable restaurants, exclusive bars and amazing clubs, you will show an unforgettable night there. It goes without saying that Leeds has a jumbo gay community, too. You will locate some wonderful gay bars dotted around the Calls area, including the legendary New Penny.After the clubs close, why not head to one of the conurbation's luxury hotels for a noted sleep? There are some excellent hotels in the city, including the Leeds hilton, so you will be spoiled for choice. The prime thing is, if you pick a hotel with a free breakfast included - you will be able to eat away your hangover, too.
