London is the capital of England and one of the world's leading financial, organisation and civilizing centres. Throughout World War II, German bombs killed over 30 000 Londoners and destroyed many houses and other frameworks across London. This was not to be the last time that London maybe damaged by bombing.In fact, Irish Republican Army bombers disrupted the city with bomb threats- and actual bombs- for numerous years until their 1997 ceasefire. More recently, the center was struck by a series of coordinated bomb attacks in 2005, which were carried out by Islamic extremist suicide bombers on the city's public transport network on 7 July.
London is a fantastic locale for tourists, particularly because it has got so many museums and galleries. These include the Natural experiences Museum, which was established in 1881. This well known museum has some great exhibits, including the prominent replica diplodocus skeleton, termed dippy, which stands in the museum's central hall. Another terrific exhibit is the skeleton of a blue whale, which weighs a massive 10 tons and is presented in the big mammals hall.
London is reputable for its shopping, so you will locate everything from quirky independent stores and markets, to designer stores.One of the city's larger renowned stores is Selfridges, which is on Oxford Street. It was elementary opened in 1909 by Harry Selfridge, who wanted to make shopping laughter rather than a chore. He succeeded and the store now has four other branches in mixed municipals throughout the UK.
London has rich and varied nightlife, which offers something for everyone. From exclusive celebrity bars and nightclubs, to cosy public houses, you cannot fail to have a preeminent night out here.London's West End is peerless for its many theatres, which emerge a wide range of musicals and other displays. The longest running appear in the West End was Agatha Christie's Mousetrap, which ran for a massive 26 years from 1952 - 2004. Other popular displays include Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Cats and Mary Poppins.
