What To Pack In A Diaper Bag

    View:
First on the check list is diapering and clothing. Following are item you should not forget: travel size container of 6-8 diapers this depends upon how long your outing will be(plan on one diaper for every two hours), diaper wipes, changing pad to keep things clean, Ziplock bags for diaper disposal and soiled clothes, 2 or 3 changes of clothing - depending upon how messy your baby is, hats which are appropriate for warmth or shade, , diaper rash ointment, baby powder.

The next category would be anything having to do with feeding: if formula feeding you will need bottles, burp cloths, jars of baby food and spoons, 2-3 bibs, cans of formula or some containers of pre-measured formula, bottled water for you ( also for baby if using powdered or concentrated formula ), portable snacks for you and possibly your other children.

Continuing you need to have toys and soothing items with you to keep your little one happy, occupied and quiet. Here are some things you should not forget: pacifiers, teething rings, 2 blankets, comfort toys, small durable books (board books are great)

Preparing for your baby's safety and emergencies should also be a priority on your list. So For long trips here are some things that you should not forget to put in you diaper bag: band-aids, antibiotic ointment, tissues, fever reducer/pain reliever, hand sanitizer, cell phone, and sunblock.

Finally here are some diaper packing tips. Pack a lot of diapers. For every two hours that you are out you should plan on packing one diaper. If your baby has diareha then you should think about packing some extras. Consider the weather conditions and then choose accordingly. Some people forget their keys often if this is you then you should put an extra set in the bag. This is a great idea if your car auto-locks when the driver's door shuts. This extra set of keys will come in handy if you accidentally lock the baby in the car.

If your child has allergies, you should always carry a liquid antihistamine in the diaper bag. For severe allergies, you may want to get an Epi-pen by prescription so that it can be kept in the bag at all times.

For those special moments you may want to keep a disposable camera with you in the bag. Also you should think about putting it in a bag to protect it from spills inside the bag. If it is not a disposable camera then you need to be extra careful.

If your formula feed, you are now able to use powdered formula. This is very convenient. All you have to do is measure the powdered amount of formula in an empty, clean bottle, and then pack a few bottled waters and mix it with the formula when the baby is ready to eat.

This is an excellent checklist to go by. Best thing to do is always have a diaper bag ready for any time that you need to rush out of the house for something. It can be difficult trying to pack a diaper bag at the last minute. This will ensure that your outing goes smoothly!
What To Pack In A Diaper Bag
I am not only a co-owner of Let's Go Strolling, but also a Mom to three ? baby, 3 year old and 6 year old. This means I have many years of packing a diaper bag under my belt and while I wouldn't say I'm an expert, for the most part I have whatever I need with me when I am out and about with my little ones.

Here's my current list of diaper bag essentials:

1)Diaper & Wipes Holder ? I love the Diapees &Wipees holder (http://www.letsgostrolling.com/diapees-and-wipees.html)and the JuJuBe BeQuick(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/ju-ju-be-be-quick.html). Both are fun, colorful and easy to find in my diaper bag. I know some people like the Skip Hop Pronto(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/skip-hop-pronto-mini-changer.html), as it holds your diapers, wipes and creams together with your changing pad for great all in one storage.

2)Burp Clothes (link to http://www.letsgostrolling.com/swaddle-designs-baby-burp-clothes.html) - Not only is this great for baby drool, it also wipes down wet park benches, dries tears, and serves as a changing pad in a pinch.

3)Wipes ? I know this is a duh, but haven't you ever been caught with a wipes case with no wipes. Not pretty! So I thought it was worth a mention.

4)A spare outfit ? I had BabySpareWare when my daughter was younger - which I loved. Now I just use a Generation Baby Handy Sak(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/generation-baby-handy-sack.html) to hold a clean outfit. It's great because when I do need to make a change on the go ? it keeps the dirty outfit in a leak-proof bag separate from everything else. It's also great for holding baby food or snacks separate so they are easy to find and don't migrate all around your diaper bag.

5)If you are nursing ? I love the BeBe Au Lait Nursing Covers(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/bebe-au-lait-nursing-cover.html). They are lightweight, pack down small in your diaper bag and give you nursing privacy while allowing a full view for Mom for easy latch-on. They even come in an organic version(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/bebe-au-lait-organic-nursing-cover.html) for the eco-conscious. As my baby gets older, I also find they shut out some of the distractions which can lead to longer nursing sessions away from home.

6)A Snack Holder? My two current favorites are the Snack Trap (allows little hands in but snacks don't fall out) and the Zoli Snack/Formula dispenser (http://www.letsgostrolling.com/zoli-travel-snack-holder.html). The Zoli is great because it is BPA free and enables you to keep many snacks easily together (not floating around your diaper bag.) It even has a pour dispenser which is great for formula or cheerios!

7)MomSpit (http://www.letsgostrolling.com/mom-spit-2oz.html)? This no-rinse cleaner really gets your kid's messy faces and sticky hands clean in a jiffy. And it's much easier and more appealing than your spit, trust me!

8)A sippy cup ? I'm loving the new Kleen Kanteen Sippy Cup(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/klean-kanteen-sippy-cup.html). Once again, BPA-free, but I really love that it has fun colors but is still completely dishwasher safe. I also use the SippiGrip(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/sippiGrip-cup-tether.html) around it when I am out with my stroller or have my toddler in a carseat. It keeps drinks close on hand without me having to constantly hand it to my kids!

9)Plastic Diaper Bags(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/diaper-mate-diaper-bags.html) - When you're traveling or at friend's houses, it's just not cool to leave a stinky diaper in their trash without sealing off the smell. This is much easier than trying to locate a plastic bag each time. Also holds wet clothes in a pinch.

10)Boogie Wipes (http://www.letsgostrolling.com/boogie-wipes.html)? The easiest way to wipe away a runny nose without chaffing your kids? noses.

11)Band-Aids ? Once you have a toddler you'll find that this is the magic cure for many boo-boos that a kiss alone can't sooth.

A great way to organize your bags can be using little pouches to separate mommy essentials from kid's. The Ju Ju Be BeSet(http://www.letsgostrolling.com/jujube-beset-diaper-bag.html) is one of the best organizing sets on the market. You can even make one a dedicated first-aid pouch if you have a little daredevil in the family!

Okay I know that's a long list ? but it packs downs small and believe me ? sooner or later- you'll need it all!

In tribute to Moms and Dads on the go everywhere ? Let's Go Strolling is offering 10% off all Diaper Bags and Diaper Bag Accessories through the end of October. Try out one of the essentials from our list and add it to your order ? and get 15% off your order of Diaper Bags and Diaper Bag Accessories. We're here to make your busy life with baby better!
