Much research on the plant has been done since the 1930's when experiments where carried out on sickly dying chickens by adding the grass supplement to their diets. The results of the experiments concluded that the chickens regained their health and actually started producing more than twice the amount of eggs than the normal untreated chickens.

You can use the plant when grown at home within 7-14 days from sprouting. When wheat grass is commercially grown for human consumption, it is grown slowly for 200 days so that it may peak in nutritional value.
