In my last place of residence I had a heated towel rack, which would usually heat the bathroom up well in the mornings and keep the towels dry. Bathroom heaters in general are an essential thing to have, as many bathrooms are tiled, which can be uncomfortable to walk upon during the winter months. Keeping heating in mirrors is also a very common thing to do, as it prevents the mirrors from steaming up after having a shower.



Underfloor heating is also common for bathrooms as it allows for the whole room to warm up gradually without causing people to feel too drowsy after a hot shower or bath. Older types of bathroom heaters consisted a wall mounted device (or ceiling) with a light bulb surrounded by metal coils (sometimes encased in glass) and cage in with a wire boxing. These took a few minutes to heat up, often illuminating orange and emanating heat from the coils.

Other bathroom heaters, not as widely used now, are in the form of a fan heater. These are effective in warming up the bathroom quickly and circulating the heat through fanning the heat out. The downside is that they will fog up the windows and the mirrors, as well as give off a muggy and misty air making it rather uncomfortable. These are also not very good for people who are prone to dizziness and headaches, and can cause people to faint or feel nauseous.

Underfloor heating is more popular and can save a lot of money on heating bills because they are energy efficient as they do not require a high temperature to heat up a room and can be manually controlled. They can be installed as an electric heating system as a hydronic system which uses heated water running through pipes, distributing heat evenly. Electric underfloor heating are also energy efficient as they are sustainable, but do heat the flooring up evenly, allowing the heat to rise slowly and warming the bottom half of the body.

It is also common for people to have central heating in houses, so very often people in the UK will have radiant heating as opposed to any other heating. This kind of heating has been around for many years, which has since seen many upgrades and modifications to make them more efficient. These however, are not so energy efficient, releasing most of the heat towards the top half of the room with much of the heat trapped up by the ceilings. Unlike underfloor heating they tend to heat up the top half of the body, which may cause headaches and drowsiness.

Keeping bathrooms warm is important especially when after having a bath or shower, whereby the body naturally feels cooler because it is damp. Having bathroom heaters makes it more comfortable during the winter and allows for less steaming up of the glass and mirrors.
