Why We Learn History

    View:
Envelopes as we know them were unheard of until the mid 19th century. Prior to this period envelopes were handmade or actually part of the letter. The letter would be folded in two and then a wax seal would be used. This involved a certain colour of wax being mantled onto the point where the paper meets and then a distinctive seal would be stamped into the molten wax.

The delivery of the folded letter with the wax seal unbroken would ensure that the letter had not been compromised, this was the first style of envelope. As time progressed handmade envelopes were commonplace and then in 1845 the first patent was passed for an envelope manufacturing machine. This revolutionised envelope production however the initial envelopes needed to be cut before being fed into the machine to form the rectangle design that would be sealed by a paste.

The British government then took monopoly control of the postal service and introduced the diamond design envelope and the first adhesive stamp, the Penny Black. The initial envelope was simply decorative wrapping and was a bit of a marketing gimmick with illustrations. These illustrations were not taken seriously and the line was recalled and remade with a different set of illustrations.

The usefulness of the wrapper, decorations aside was realised by the British public as they could put the letter into the envelope then affix a stamp meaning that the postage had already been paid, safe in the knowledge it would be delivered to the recipient. The diamond shaped wrapper spread across the globe and the foundations for the modern envelope as we know it were born.

The style of envelope has remained remarkably similar to the original diamond design and the major changes have been in the technical manufacture of envelopes. Modern designs have very specific requirements in most developed countries so machines are needed that can produce to these standards. As with most things there are international standard sizes and the American standard sizes.

With contemporary postage it is essential that not only the standard sizes of the envelopes are in place, but that the envelopes are formatted correctly with details. Due to the modern postal service using sorting machines the address details have to be entered in a standard place, in Russia they even provide boxes to write the relevant numbers in so that they are ensured to be read.

Envelopes have undergone mass changes over the years and they are still used for many diverse purposes. The aerogram is an extremely similar format to the older folded and sealed letter whilst the Japanese use decorative envelopes to make bereavement offerings at funerals. Envelopes are available from a wide variety of providers online and in a massive array of styles.
Why We Learn History
Brazilian green propolis is widely known for its medicinal applications. It is derived from honeybees and is extracted directly from the surrounds of a beehive. Its name means ?defense of a city? from the Greek language. The compound carries anti-microbial properties that can be beneficial to the human immune system the way that it is beneficial to the beehive. For example, bees use the compound to avoid bacterial infection by covering intruders? carcasses with it to avoid putrefaction as they decay. This compound is also present in AFC.

Propolis is a widely used medicinal compound since antiquity, with both Roman and Greek solders using it to treat wounds and prevent infection. Aristotle himself attested to its effectiveness and endorsed the utilization of the chemical to treat infections during his time. Propolis was even used as medicine for wounds together with vaseline during the Boer War. In modern times, the herbal compound gained popularity once again in Europe especially in the former Soviet Union and three of its states when they used the drug to treat health problems in their jurisdictions. Japan also realized the potency of the compound in the 1980's and is now the largest importer of the product in the whole world with a preference for products made from Brazil including AFC.

Raw propolis is produced worldwide. All of these variants are similar when it comes to biological composition. However, Brazilian and European propolis have different chemical structures from each other. This is because the bees that make the products use different types of plants for producing the resin to make the compound. In European variants, flavonoids are observed to be the major constituent while Brazilian versions have poyprenylated benzophones dominating their chemical profile. This is owing to the fact that European bees derived resin from poplars which are non-existent in the tropical South American countries.

The Brazilian green propolis is the most famous among the world. This is because the green variant is easy to process. Mechanical mills can easily convert the compound into powder to be mixed with their products. It is also said that the Brazilian bees are particularly more productive in creating the compound for their hives compared to other bees in other countries. This is something, although there is no conclusive evidence, that experts are attributing to the Africanization of the Brazilian bees after African queen bees were let loose accidentally from a laboratory in Sao Paulo.

The products sold under the AFC brand have many medicinal uses. Since the raw materials on which the products are based have very high antioxidant attributes, the intake of these products stimulates the immune system and boosts its ability to fight foreign microbes and bacteria in the body. AFC has intended these products for use with different ailments including common ones like cough, flu, cold, tonsillitis, laryngitis and herpes, among others. The raw material for these products is extracted from bee farms in Minas Gerais, Brazil which has little to no chemical pollution, making AFC's products virtually safe and free from chemical influences that might harm the body instead of helping it.
