According to experts, window films is a one billion dollar business, with 10,000 dealer/installers across the country. In general, the window tinting business can be divided into car, residences and commercial. Most start-ups focus on installing window tints on residences and commercial properties, because of the intense competition in the automotive sector.
Despite the fact that you don't need a lot of money to get started, window tinting can be considered as an art. The process is not as simple as it may seem, so you need a lot of training to reach the level of experienced professionals. Your success in window tinting installation is influenced by the skills and techniques you posses.
Window tinting has turned into one of the most profitable segments of the auto aftermarket industry. To good thing here is that you don't need a lot of money to get started, just tint film and several tools that can be found in almost every garage. The prices are around $150 for a 4-door car, while the actual materials cost about $50 in this case.
Of course, tinting windows yourself saves money, but you must have the necessary know-how. Or you might know something about that, but have limited experience and still aren't completely confident in your abilities. So how can one receive a proper window tinting training?
Window tinting can be learned the hard way with a lot of expenses, or you could choose a more easier path. Some people think that they can learn by actually working at a tint shop or at least get started, then quit after some time and start their own gig. But that's not the case, because before you even get started, you would be required to sign a special 'non-compete' contract. This is a legal agreement, according to which employees are not allowed to open shop of their own in the next 2-5 years, depending on the period specified in the agreement.
Another option is to attain special seminars, but tend to be quite costly with prices between $2,000 and $5,000 for only 1-2 weeks. They might be effective, but the price-quality ration is not exactly good. Fortunately, the Internet is changing all that for good with the possibility of online window tinting training.
This is the best method, because it allows you to study when you want, for as long as you want, without leaving the comfort of your home and the prices are extremely low. You just have to sign up online and you immediately be granted access to PDF documents, video files, manuals and e-books. Those programs are usually divided into three parts - starter, pro and advanced.
Truth is that there is a lot of money to be made in the window tinting business. And the best part of it all, is that you can learn it at home and then start a business of your own. Invest some money and make your life way better.
Window Tinting How To
I don't know where I first heard that window tinting was illegal but I know that it was in grade school around 5th or 6th grade. The crazy thing is that I don't know if it is really true still. So what I am going to do for this article is do a little google research and see if I can find any convincing evidence for or against this rumor. This will settle the debate that has been raging in my head for a good 15 years or so anyway. If that doesn't take up enough room I will try to find out if there are a list of pros and cons to darkening the windows and/or windshield (do they do that?) on the care of your choice.
So I do the search right and there 56,400 results for “window tinting illegal.” The very first result is called “tint laws.” Perfect right? Well it seems that there are actually laws that very specifically lay out the type and location of the tinting that is and is not allowed on a vehicle. So I live in Omaha, Nebraska right? If you haven't been, we are the hippest car and driver types to ever hop in a low rider to push the button so the ass drops (if you know what I'm saying). Any way I go to the section that details the laws that apply to Nebraska…
Here is what I found: AS-1 / 35% Film / 20% Film / 20% Film / 199x. Now let me explain what this means first the key to the order that each specification details is: Windshield / Front Side Windows / Rear Side Windows / Rear-Back Window / Year Passed. So now let me explain the % film and all that. So the windshield there is a mark that says “AS-1.” Basically window tinting cannot go below this mark. Moving on, on the front side windows the tint “film” that is allowed must pass at least 35% of the visible light spectrum. The film on the rear side windows must past at least 20% of the visible light. The rear-back window tinting film must also pass at least 20% of visible light. This law was passed some time in the 1990s. Something to realize is that mirrored tint is generally prohibited everywhere in the US.
So what do you know? I was right all these years! At least partially anyway. So you know what I am about to do? Well I am about to hop in my ride and roll over to Ed's window tinting and have them lay some beautiful black all over my precious lenses and then I will be able to roll to the beat of bouncing bass while looking at people that will only be able to imagine how cool I must be.
