Aspen trees are one of the most popular trees in the United States and aspen wood is also one of the most popular choices for making rustic furniture. Aspen trees are fairly common in Colorado and Utah so if you happen to associate the tree with either or both states then that's normal. The most commonly planted variety of aspen trees would be the quaking aspen, aptly named because of the way its flat branches shimmer in the wind.



What's so good about aspen log furniture? First, the light shade of the wood finish actually goes well with most room d'cor. Now, taking care of your wood furniture can be a daunting task, especially if you're the type who does not like seeing blemishes on expensive aspen log furniture. Unfortunately, no matter how careful we might be, there will be times that somebody will accidentally make a scratch. The good thing is you can do something about those scratches.

You can use different solvents for cleaning wood. Do take note that not all solvents would go perfectly with the finish. Some can actually remove or damage it. The proper way to go about it is to try it first on an inconspicuous area, like the bottom area of an aspen log bed, before using it on the whole furniture. That way, you can check first if the solvent would be incompatible with the finish. It is also important to know that all solvents are flammable, so make sure to read the instructions on the product before anything else.

To properly clean wood furniture, like aspen log dressers, use a wet rag (preferably a bristly one) to wipe the surface of the furniture. Remember to use the other side of the rag if you notice that it's no longer picking up dirt and make sure that you cover every space including the gaps (like the sides of the dresser door panels).

If the scratch is merely on the finish and does not affect the wood beneath it, then you can use fine steel wool and Danish oil to remove it. Simply rub the area with the grain, taking care not to damage the wood stain. Afterwards, wipe the area with a wet rag and mineral spirits. Take care of the edges, especially since they wear quite easily.

It's a good idea to make sure that you follow these steps closely to avoid any possible damage on the furniture. After all, you wouldn't want to see scratches on your custom aspen log furniture.
