Articles are a great way to get publicity for your product or website. But, many people dread the idea of having to write articles. For many it seems too much work and it all just goes to waste because no one reads them. Let's face it, no one wants to read stuff that is boring or bland.
Articles are supposed to be read. How else are you going to get your very important message and well thought out information to the masses. If they're not read, then it is truly a waste of time and effort on the part of the author.
Articles need to be written well to be read. Writing a well written article doesn't have to be strenuous or put undue stress on the author. But, there are a few points that you need to be reminded of, and some basic guidelines that you should follow. Once you get the hang of it, writing articles can be fun and hopefully profitable for you and your site.
Below are six tips to help you get your articles read. These tips are designed to make your articles more enjoyable and interesting to the people that are reading them.
1) One focal point. It's important to focus the entire article around one subject. This will help you and your readers to stay on track, so to speak. You can think of it as a train. An engine and then box cars, and then a kaboose. You don't want the train getting off the tracks just like you don't want your article covering different subjects.
2) Short Clear Paragraphs. Paragraphs should be short and to the point. Try to make each paragraph get one point across to the reader. Back to our train example, the entire train is make up of many cars, not just one very long car. Each car follows the engine in progression. Much as your short paragraphs will follow your primary idea for the article.
3) Use of formatting. As you stress each point, use formatting to help the reader connect the points in their mind. Numbers and bullets can quickly make your main points easier to digest and remember. As each point or method is started format it to add just a little bit of flair and to separate it from the other points.
4) Create an attention grabbing title. It's your title that will entice a person's curiosity and get them to read your article. Use statements or questions that utilize the key words that describe your article content. Remember to keep your title concise but catchy.
5) Use examples. People like to read about experiences. From your opening paragraph all the way to your conclusion, try to use situations that can be adopted by the reader. Use experiences and metaphors where possible to drive in your point and give the reader something to relate to.
6) Utilize numbers where necessary. Using specific facts and figures can give your article more creedance on a particular subject. If your intention is for the article to be authoritative on a given point, citing specific facts can help build the reader's confidence that you know what you are discussing.

Almost anyone can write articles, but writing ones that drive targeted traffic to your website is the challenge. How do you interest potential customers in what you have to say? And, once they are interested in your article, how do you drive them to your site and possibly convert them into customers? The following are some tips that will help you to master the art of article marketing.
(1) Put yourself in your customer's shoes. What information about your product or service would be helpful to your customers? If you were your customer, what types of things would you want to learn? Write about those things. Answering frequently asked questions, or solving problems that your target market is likely to have, will make you look like an expert in the eyes of your reader, and people are more likely to buy from someone they view as an expert in their field.
(2) Find the keywords that your clients will likely search for when looking for information on your product or service. Even if your website doesn't rank well with the search engines, an article that makes good use of keywords might. Be sure that your keywords appear frequently in your article without reducing the quality of the writing.
(3) Don't misspell or misuse words. Use a spellchecker and a dictionary. In particular, watch for frequently misused words that might not get picked up by a checker, such as "there" versus "their", and "then" versus "than". An article that is littered with misspelled or misplaced words will not look professional and this will reflect on you. If there are multiple mistakes within an article, readers will view it as poor quality and will not value its content, even if it contains high caliber information. Also, a well written article is much more likely to be picked up by individuals looking for quality content for their ezines and newsletters that could potentially be sent out to hundreds or even thousands of readers.
(4) Have someone proofread your articles. Proofreading your own articles simply is not enough. Often you miss typos and errors because your mind knows what is supposed to be written, and thus overlooks mistakes. Have a trusted friend or colleague proofread your article and ask them for feedback. They may be able to point out things that you haven't made clear, or things that you hadn't thought of mentioning.
