Tet Paisan: Early Rossellini classic, largely improvised by a mainly nonprofessional cast. 6 vignettes portray life in Italy throughout WW2. The best has American nurse looking for her lover in rubble of Florence. The Gaucho: Cheesy melodramatics and moralizing, and not enough action hinder this lesser Fairbanks piece, in which he plays a famed, egocentric South American man. Cast includes Douglas Fairbanks, Lupe Velez, Eve Southern, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Nigel de Brulier, and Geraine Greear. (96 minutes, 1927)

Playing for Keeps: After completing high school, a group gets together to spare a run-down hotel from a selfish developer in an unfriendly town. This is a youth comedy from the 1980s that is aged and worth watching. Additionally, it is significant as the only directorial attempt by the founders and honchos of Miramax. Take heed of the regularly used montage! Cast includes Daniel Jordano, Matthew Penn, Leon W. Permit, Mary B. Ward, Marisa Tomei, Jimmy Baio, and Harold Gould. (102 minutes, 1986)

3:10 To Yuma: A poor rancher needing money to feed his family takes on a tough job. He agrees to help transport famous outlaw Ben Wade. The $200 dollars will hopefully save his land. They must get Ben Wade from Bisbee to Yuma to catch the 3:10 train.

Righteous Kill: There is a serial killer loose in New York City. This killer is hunting viscous criminals who seem to elude the law. The police are happy to see these victims off the street, but this is still is murder. As the investigation evolves it is looking more and more like policemen are involved.

The Adjuster: This film is a bold seductive study of voyeurism and the electrical energy of icons. Amid the characters is an insurance adjuster who plays games with the lives of those he handles. Meanwhile, his spouse secretly tapes the pornographic material she's categorizing. Stars include Elias Koteas, Arsinee Khanjian, Maury Chaykin, Gabrielle Rose, and Jennifer Dale. Directed by Molecule Egoyan (1991-Canadian drama -l02 minutes rated R)

Black Rain: New York detectives Nick Conklin and Nick Vincent capture a killer who is part of the Japanese Mafia. Upon escorting him back to Japan, he escapes. With the assistance of the Tokyo police they try and track this killer down. They find themselves being pulled deep into the world of the Japanese Mafia.
