Facts About White Wine |
|
Did you know that one grape cluster (around 75 grapes) gives us one delicious glass of white wine? Therefore 4 clusters (300) give us a whole bottle to ourselves! Can you just imagine if we had our own vineyard, the possibilities are endless!! A Nebuchadnezzar, no its not the name of a monster, but rather the name for the largest bottle of white wine you can buy. 15 litres of liquidy goodness, equating to a massive 20 bottles of regular sized bottles! Don't think I'll be ordering 2 bottles! i'm ashamed to say I am a self proclaimed alcoholic, one of the main reasons I decided to attend a wine tasting exhibition-this however created a new found respect for grapes. Free alcohol seems like the perfect incentive to visit one of these events to me. Everyone else was getting pretty drunk, but my high tolerance meant I was able to take in a few facts and be educated on the wines on show. I went home and shared these facts i had picked up with my family. They seems pretty impressed i must say! Red grapes can produce red and white wine, however it is the interesting green grape that can only produce white wine and fine wine at that. the skins of the grapes play a major role in making wine. The colour of the wine is due to this. White wine has no colour but the grape juice. The red colour in red wine comes from the skins fermenting in the wine. Much of the fizzy stuff is made using red grapes and not actual white! the skins are removed so your champagne isn't red. who likes gelatine? How bourt fish extracts or egg whites in your white wine? I know I don't. however these products are commonly used to refine a wine. Thus rendering it not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Make sure you read the ingredients before drinking! In the past cow's blood (I was assured not any more!) was even used in the refining process! Gross. However after hearing all this, all I could think about was when I could have my next glass, you see all this doesn't bother me, alcohol is alcohol, that sweet aromatic flavour, the sensational warm glow I get inside me upon the sweet grape juice entering my system, far outweighs my ability to care about how its made. So tonight glass of white wine or red my dear?
