Dont Waste Money on Kitchen Cutlery Sets |
|
Interested in assembling one or two kitchen cutlery sets? The first step is to learn about knives. Each knife in any of the different types of kitchen cutlery sets on the market has its own unique function. Below, you can learn about the different types of knives you should consider: The Cook’s Knife The Chef’s, or Cook’s, Knife is used for tough tasks like chopping and dicing when preparing food. It ranges between 6 and 12 inches in length. You’ll find that the blade is curved, which will help you perform tasks on the cutting board. Consider this knife as your "mule" in that it does the difficult jobs. But, unfortunately for the Chef’s knife, it is best known as the knife that Michael Myers used in the movie Halloween. The Bread Knife The Bread Knife has a thin, serrated blade. It averages 8 inches in length and, as you would expect, is used to cut bread (bet you didn’t know how "knife smart" you were, did you?), making it indispensible to all good kitchen cutlery sets. The Paring Knife The Paring Knife, while small in stature, is big in use as it’s the favorite for peeling, coring and other exact work. It averages 3 inches in length. The Utility Knife The Utility Knife, ranging in length from 4 to 7 inches, has fallen out of favor with chefs. It’s too large for exact tasks, which is the Paring Knife’s domain and too small to compete with the Chef’s Knife for the title of work horse. The Steak Knife Perhaps a favorite knife is the Steak Knife - favorite because, other than your personal dining knife, it’s the knife closest to the food at meal time. It’s used to slice meat at the dinner table prior to serving, quickly easing the hunger pains of your family and dining guests. It’s about 5 inches in length. The Cleaver The Cleaver, which, to its chagrin, looks rather ominous, is actually a helpful tool to have in the kitchen. It’s a handy "knife" that is perfect for chopping and cutting bone. The Boning Knife A Boning Knife, with its flexible blade, is ideal for removing bones from meat. At around six inches in length, the Boning Knife snakes its way in between the meat and the bone and literally "pops" out from the meat. While the Cleaver can cut through bone, the Boning Knife is a little more elegant - it "flips" the bone from the meat. The Fillet Knife If you’re a fish eater, then you absolutely can’t do without the Fillet Knife in your kitchen cutlery set. It’s a larger version, coming in at ten inches in length, of the Boning Knife. So many knives! But now that you have passed Knives 101, the course they never gave you in high school Home Economics but should have, you are prepared to purchase kitchen cutlery sets for you, your friends and your family!
